I hope that your wrong there as Corrie will not really pick up till we are rid of them.

There are too many characters and episodes. Other than that there isnt really a problem.

I think Danny and Leanne have a great chemistry.
As do Rosie and Craig.
I care about what happens to both those couples, and both are at the centre of big storylines currently.

But there aren't many other couples who do.
Gail and Phil
Steve and Ronnie (used to, but something went wrong)
Tyrone and Maria (zzzz.... wake me up when she has her next affair)
Sarah and Jason (ghastly - whereas J and Violet really did have a chemistry)
Liz and Vernon / Les and Cilla (arrrghhh!)
Tracy and Charlie (well, at least they are interesting, if vile)

However despite all these mismatched couples, I still think Corrie is very good at the moment, so I don't agree with your original post, Polly. It may not be on absolutely top form, but as others have said we can't expect that 100% of the time.

I hate to agree with you! I have been a corrie fan for years, I've always loved it for it's great storylines, good comedy and wonderful characters. But it's really sadly lacking lately. And you're right Eve, Steve and Ronnie do not work!!

I think it has well and truly regained its spark since summer (oh, the days of the carp storyline ). I'm really enjoying Corrie at the minute and there are so many main sotrlines that I am taking an interest in (Gail/Phil/David, Rosie and Craig, Mike Baldwin and Ed/Emily/Eileen but to name a few).

But I agree with Polly, the writing is really superb! Witty, well characterised, emotional and interesting. At least this is something Corrie has to be proud of.

Too many episode's i think.

One on Monday,will be fine.

I just think they need another huge gripping story and then the only way from there is up.

Baldwin overload is one of the biggest problems in my opinion.

Also some severely mis-matched couples and partners being brought in for long-standing characters just for the sake of it i.e. Steve and Ronnie, Liz and that drummer guy, possibly Eileen and Ed, the coupling of Tracy and Charlie and the whole sordid Frankie/Jamie thing.

Coronation Street has just seemed to lose the importance of it being character driven. At the moment there are a lot of stand-alone characters (like I have mentioned) who have no other purpose but to drive existing characters who are somewhat flagging. For instance I'd much rather see Steve do something other than have a relationship, because let's face it, nothing could live up to Karen McDonald.

I hope that the first thing Steve Frost does is have a good clear-out.

(Hopefully most of the residents of Number 7....it could always collapse again)

Corrie's fine, nothing wrong with it, a few more drama eps won't go a miss and less comedy, loving the Baldwins and Websters, it can only improve.

There's no way they'll go because the producers/writers think that everybody still loves Chesney even though the hype for him has died down. They also think that we find Les and Cilla hilarious (which I certainly don't) so they'll hang onto them for the 'comedy' they bring to the show

That's my favourite kind of storyline.
Sharon and Dennis.
Justin and Becca.
Those storylines got me hooked.

I gave up watching at the end of July after 27 years. It had just become too boring. I started watching EE at the end of August for the Dirty Den clmax and, although I'm not a fan of the show, I'm still enjoying it. Since Kieran Roberts took over they've forgotten how to write. Watch the 70s or 80s (or even 90s at a push, though the rot started when they went 4 times) and everyone had something going on while the big storylines had cast rotation so the same people didn't get it all like they do now. The humour was there before, even during Jane MacNaught's tenure. It's gone now. Emmerdale has got it and that balance of comedy and drama Corrie used to do so well, and that should be 3 eps a week too. John Stevenson restored my faith in his ability with that panto. I was beginning to think he'd lost his comic touch. But it just goes to show, given decent material to work with, miracles happen. The comedy should be natural with witty lines and situations, not forced like they are currently doing it. I would like to think Steve Frost will make a difference. But with Kieran Roberts ultimately his boss, I very much doubt it.
