I have bought the 32" version of the Sharp Aquos 6 series and have major problems. So much I regret buying the thing now, all I want is a decent picture.
I have Sky Digital (Pace) and a Philips 880 DVD Recorder.
Sky is set up on RGB into RGB enabled AV1 (gold SCART connector) while the DVD recorder is set up from SKY into DVD and then DVD into AV2. The only output on my DVD is either RGB or Y/c, but AV2 on the Sharp isnt RGB.
Signal quality & strength on SKY is around 70%-80%.
The problems I have is that;-
i) The picture is very poor on Sky, very pixellated, no matter how I change thes settings.
ii) On SKY Sports news, the text is blurry and not sharp.
iii) On using the DVD recorder, the Philips menu, ghosts in what can be described as a very poor picture.

I contacted SKY and they told me that my TV was too good for the signal, and that is why the picture is poor. They told be to couple up my CRT TV until HD arrives. I feel I have wasted 900 quid.

Any advice would be greatly apprecited.

small question I assume you are sitting back from the tv? I notice this pixelation too on my LCD tv but if I sit back from it at a reasonable distance the picture doesn't look as bad. I will admit I was disappointed too when I seen the pixelation and was tempted to take my tv back and stick with the bulky tubed 20" tv but I got used to it.

Yes, I am sat about 6ft away from the TV, and the picture looks reasonable. Yet for 900 quid, I would expect the picture to be just as good as my CRT. Or is that expecting too much??? It's annoying when I hear of other people on other forums saying what an excellent picyure they get from their LCD.

I know just what you mean, my LCD was about 800 which for a 22 yr old is alot of money to part with lol just to take it home and find out the picture is pixelated but I have only noticed the pixelation when viewing sky never when watching dvd player and sky and dvd player are both hucked up to tv via scart. I know its not a problem with sky as when I huck sky box up to pc via svideo the picture is fine same if I huck it upto pc via ya bog stanadard tv aerial lead.

what is causing this pixelaion? anyone?

What is causing the pixallation is exactly what Sky have said it is. Its the fact a SD signal is running through a large HD resolution TV.

Think if you run your PC with a lovely 19" monitor but run it at 800x600.

This is why viewing distances are VITAL in purchasing a HDTV set when you will be running a normal signal through it. Sit too close and you will see the flaws in the SD broadcast. I sit about 6ft away from my Sharp LCD (26GA3E) and its about ideal.

This is one of the reasons Sharp were wise in releasing the P50 series of LCD TVs, they cater solely for SD broadcasts and give an excellent picture even up close.

6ft for a 32" TV is just too close. Im afraid for the distance you are watching your TV from you bought a TV that is just too big.

Cheers for the help. The picture has improved with a little tweaking from other forum members. The viewing distance is 9ft to 12 ft. The big thing for me is the DVD recorder now. As AV1 is only RGB enabled, and my DVD recorder has only RGB or Y/C, the text and display on my DVD players setup menu is, in a word, shocking. It ghosts all over the place. On the Sharp, AV2 scart control allows SVideo or CVBS, RGB is also there but is not supported (why keep it in the soddin menu).
Have tried running the DVD output as Y/C and the Input on AV2 on the TV as SVideo, the screen goes blank!
This is really starting to naff me off.

Just in defence of the tv, I have the same tv about three metres away, and I'm not having a problem with pixilation from Sky+. I just had to turn off the picture processing and turn down the brightness. Having said that, I suppose it could depend what channel you're looking at.

But if you put an RGB source into a non-RGB socket on it (or into an RGB socket that isn't set to RGB), you get a very bad double image, especially noticeable on text.

The tv only has one RGB scart, so Charlie will need something like the Joytech AV Control Centre to plug everything in, if he wants RGB on more than one source.

(The AV Control Centre is a remote controlled four-scart switch that also has four optical inputs, four s-videos, and four yellow/white/red inputs that double well as component inputs - I'm finding it very handy, especially for only £40.)

hi, i know im quoting myself from a different thread but it sorta the same poblem;

"Hey i just bought a HD-Ready 26" Phillips LCD tv today and connected it to my Sky+ and the picture was horrid.

*Using the onscreen menus i was greeted by shadows on everyword

*Moving objects on screen were VERY brightly coloured and fuzzy with an outline around anything that move.

*There was massive amounts of noticeable pixelation (even at a 6/7 ft away)

Needless to say i was gutted as i was hoping to have a stunning picture. So i decided to rearrange the Scart leads.

Before my current set up was;

Sky+ box fed my DVD which then fed to my tv. (which was followed from instructions with my dvd player).

I have since changed it so my Sky+ feeds both the DVD player, and also the tv. That way the Sky picture is coming directly from my box to the tv. I now watch Sky on AV1 and my DVD player on AV2

The picture is now stunning!! I could not fault it at all.

I would suggest trying to get the Sky box to feed your tv set without any interuptions (VCR,DVD,etc). Then once you've got the picture you want try to get the DVD/VCR to work with it."

Dunno if that helps?!?

I can only think your kit didnt have RGB passthrough. Ie it was a RGB signal out of your Sky+ box but ended up scart composite when it ended up at your TV. Ive got my Sky+ box going through my Philips HDRW720 that does pass through the RGB signal and its picked up as RGB on my Sharp without any problem.
