Corrie's Ed- What's he all about?
I know Ed has been mentioned in other threads but I don't think there is one just for him and as I have no idea where this stroy is going I thought people could share spoilers about him as it seems it will be a big story.
I don't particularly like the character or actor and I hate it when a new character comes in to start a relationship with a long running character such as Phil and Gail or Vernon and Liz. But it now looks like Eileen is falling for Ed. I will only be satisfied with this if it leads to a bigger and better story. Someone mentioned a link to Mike Baldwin and Emily and how Ed is the man who killed her husband in the Underworld heist. I didn't watch it then so I have no idea about it but surely they won't give the Baldwins another story. I like the Baldwins but they are so busy with alcoholism, love triangles and Mike's illness! It would be good to see Emily used in another dramatic story though like she was with Richard Hillman and Barmy Brenda. Emily seems to the best used out of the old characters. Anyway spoilers for this story are welcome and I hope its more interesting than giving Eileen a new fella... |

Yes Eillen is getting a new fella but you were right in saying that ...
Spoiler
Emily's husband was killed with a shotgun in a raid. The gunmen weren't originally going to shoot but Mike Baldwin burst in through the door not realising what was going on and they accidently shot and killed Ernest.

They could have got a better actor to play Ed though. |

They could have got a better actor to play Ed though. The intriguing part of the spoilers - if it's true - says that when the truth comes out about Ed it affects a lot of people (can't see how!) but even more intriguingly - that Emily is determined 'to get revenge'! Not like Emily at all, so maybe it's to introduce a challenge to her Christian feelings, or something, seeing as Christians are supposed to forgive everyone! Oh and when Eileen finds out who he is, she doesn't turn against him (well ... it IS years since she had a bloke, she'll want to hang onto him! ) and says he deserves a second chance ..... so maybe we'll get something rare - scenes between Eileen and Emily! Have they ever exchanged a sentence in the 5 years Eileen has been in the show?! I've said this before, but as someone who remembers this actor in Corrie as Ray in 1997, knowing he's only 41 and he certainly looks no older than that (even with the hair, which looks like that of someone not long out of prison! lol!), as he was 14 when Ernie was killed ..... stretches it a bit to believe it was the same bloke, when the youngest of the two men who did the robbery was about 19/20 at the time so he should be knocking 50 now, and Ed clearly is NOT!

Yes I agree he seems far too young to have been the killer in 1978. I have seen that clip and they looked a lot older. Also it is similary to the Nickt Tilsley meets his father's killer storyline from some years back.

[/quote]I was going to make the point about the bloke playing Ed already appearing in Coronation Street. I like him as an actor, I can remember him being in Brookside in 1987 as Mick, one of Harry Cross's lodgers. Him and Pat Hancock were a good double act......

When Ernest got shot it wasn't Underworld, it was Mike's original factory which got demolished later in a different story line. The Platts, Peacocks and Craig and Grandpa now live in the houses that were built on the land.
A few years back Emily came across a group of people on a tour of famous Manchester murder spots, they were thrilled to meet the actual widow of the man who was blown away in the robbery. Emily was not pleased! I can't see her forgiving too easily, she will be mortified. |

Did any one else notice that Mike in his confusion on Monday took a double look at "Ed" when he saw him in the pub with Emily - remember Mike can only remember clearly distant events and not recent ones, this could be a progression on this storyline as well .. although I think it really will see Emily battle with her personal beliefs and God, look at how he is already moving her away from the Church and making his own "reading group" hope it dont turn into some dodgey cult !!!
