EE - Why are there no mothers? READ ON...
It appears that most families that have moved into the square seem to have a lack of mothers.
The Slaters - Mum deceased The Ferrias - Mum estranged Deano and the Wicks - Mum unknown, but he grew up without her Gus and Juley Smith - Never mentioned The Allens - Mother nd sister deceased The Moons - Mother and father deceased Honey - Mentions father but no trace of her mother |

Due to poor writing and planning, Eastenders is full of fragmented families. I've yet to work out exactly how Deano Wicks is related to Pat, and am still mystified as to why Jake and Danny Moon addressed Nana Moon, as Nana, when due to other details previously given in the programme, she couldn't possibly be their Grandmother.

Poor writing and planning? since when where the Slaters and the Wicks family ever bad planning? If your finding it that hard to understand why not look at the family trees on the EastEnders site. Although your no Eastenders fan so I don't see why your even bothered. |

Deano isn't actually related to Pat and this has also been mentioned several times. Pat was married into the Wicks family and has two sons Simon and David Wicks, she really liked Kevin Wicks Deano's father which is probably why she's agreed to let Deano stay. |

Lack of female characters and strong mothers I would say is one of EE big problems - although people moan about Pat, Peggy & Pauline, they are all strong women and that is what the soap is missing. They need mothers and women characters and movement away from this silly out of control gangster stuff!!

Big Mo has two children with Jimmy (Pat’s brother), who were listed on the old EE family trees as Billy and Jean. She has also mentioned that she does have other grandchildren in addition to the Slater sisters and Kat and Lynne have both referred to their cousins in the past. Gus and Juley have also mentioned their mother before. When Juley first arrived in the square, he was accompanied by his and Gus’ stepbrother and explained that his mother had remarried at some point. I don’t understand the introduction of the new Wicks family either, it’s still debatable whether either Simon or David were Brian’s sons and Brian was physically abusive to Pat (and a waste of space) which is why she left him and returned to the square in the first place. |

Obviously she wasn't actually their Nana although she was related to them but they just called her Nana. There I've explained it to you twice now but don't ask me what relation Nana actually was to Jake and Danny because I've forgotten but if you look at the family trees on the excellent EastEnders website then you should be able to find out there.

Thanks for the explanation Pansiks; I haven't been on DS for over two weeks!

Young, single characters are much more interesting. Anyway it's the nature of soaps that families will end up being fragmented as actors move on. |

The Millers are very popular now. The Kings and the Baldwins also had their critics.

I think their main purpose is not just giving Pat more to do it's getting a new family into the show but also putting a different spin on things and having them be part of a family from the past. |

Not trying to pick at this, or anything, but wasn't the original point of the thread to ask about people who HAVE no mothers, not who are mothers.
Just saying, because all this stuff is actually quite interesting :] |

Just saying, because all this stuff is actually quite interesting :] EE has always been female based, most of the strongest characters are female. |
