Is Deano Wicks a new EE character that we are meant to find likeable? He nicks flowers left for Dennis at the spot where he died, prances about like an idiot, greets people with one liners (yeah we do that in real life dont we) and comes across as a complete and utter idiot. Do the writers of the show want us to like him or loathe him?

It's also par for the course if you move into Albert Square.

You HAVE to nick something on your first day, just to show you're a cheeky cockney.

Rather than him actually doing it, I'm more annoyed at the complete lack of imagination from the writers. In the last couple of years, nearly every new character seems to thieve quite happily.

The character is a prat, but it seems to be irrelevant when so many youn girls are obsessed with who's the hottest in the programme, etc. Like Dennis, he was a non-entity, the worst actor in the show, but they loved him.

That really put me off him, stealing Dennis's flowers. From what I've seen so far I'm not sure I'm going to like him.

Let's be honest, he's Danny Moon mark 2.

Eastenders is struggling at the moment, the Dennis/Johnny storyline aside, it's really really struggling...

Really?

That will be why it is top of the ratings and winning Coronation Street is it?

Hello Everybody, this is my first post so please be kind!

Deano Wicks - seems that the writers (as previously mentioned) are getting lazier and lazier, it seems that they want us to be so 'dazzled' by the eye-candy (Dawn & Deano) that we are supposed to ignore how bad the acting really is! For goodness sake, watching him trying to muster up the appropriate facial expressions for his 'mourning' almost made me reach for the remote - however - I was compelled to keep watching just in case it got better - I think you all know that it didn't!

Bomber tried to think of a witty response to this, but I noticed the 'winning coronation street' remark, and realised you must be 4 years old, and Bombers not that cruel.

Although I would say that EE is bound to have higher ratings than Corro at the moment - because a: Corro is poor lately, and b: because a main character has just died - everyone knows that's the way to get ratings.

But even the most ardent EE fan would have to admit, that if you took out the gangster nonsense, it is a very weak show.

Sorry but me and Bonze were getting confused when Crystal Clear made the same mistake as you did. So for other people's benefit you both say that it won Coronation Street when it actually beat Coronation Street in the ratings and therefore didn't actually win Coronation Street at all.

Just clearing up some unnecessary confusion.

Anyway i think it's a bit to early to be judging Deano but first impressions aren't brilliant.

What? I said winning because it is winning them in the ratings. Whats all this beat? if it was beat it would mean only once yet it has been every night for two weeks. So you see its winning.

Yes it is winning but not "winning them". Winning them applies it is gaining something competition - therefore it is "beating them" which can mean on more than one occasion and/or for long periods of time.

Well I and many others call it winning. Just like eastenders is the winning soap.

It is a winning soap but please see my previous post for edits and translation to their grammatical tenses. It's just the phrase "winning them" which gives an alternate meaning. Anyway, back on topic now as I hope it has been sorted.

I agree that the gangster stuff is a complete waste of time. The sooner Johnny leaves the better really!

This rivalry thing between Johnny and the Mitchells....uurrghh! What a waste of time!

Eastenders always seem to introduce characters in this annoying and forthright manner, instead of breaking them in gently. It was the same with the Slaters, the Millers and Stacey, who have all mellowed over their time in the square. When characters are so ' in your face' it just irritates me, and it then takes me longer, if in fact I ever am, to be interested in them; however, Eastenders has been driven by plots rather than characters for the last couple of years, so I'm not expecting too much depth from Deano.

I don't think this thread is saying 'we hate him.' It is however, highlighting the fact, that the writers of Eastenders have little ability for introducing characters in an original and endearing manner.
