But I think we have to consider the audience that DW is aimed at - something along the lines of 8 to 80+? I'm sure that children of a single-figure age loved the fart-gags... and for me, as an adult, there was always the special effects and the addition to the overall story-arc to keep me happy. As I'm sure you recall, the Slitheen two-parter was my least favourite story in the whole series, but I can see why it was done and even if parents were bored with part one, I'm sure that their children would have ensured that they watched part two. Personally, I think that RTD could add a slightly more adult tone to the more child-orientated episodes - and if done in the right way, would go totally over the top of the younger audience's head whilst still engaging the adults even more. It is difficult what balance to have in keeping the kiddies entertained whilst engaging the more adult audience but the farting gags were just too laboured...after the third or fourth time it just became tedious and boring. Kids are far more sophisticated creatures these days..always wanting and expecting better special effects than before and I believe they expect the same in what they are watching. I am sure they must have had a jolly good chuckle themselves the first time around but as we know with kids their attention moves onto something else as quickly as that scene is over. AOL/WW3 had heaps of potential but failed to deliver on a number of levels for me...even my nephew (he is 7) was not impressed when he watched it the second time around. Believe it or not his favourite episode after Dalek is The Empty Child. |

I saw the Christmas Invasion as a development in the 'writing children's episodes that adult's can enjoy' skill of the DW writers. There were good moment in the Slithereen eps, but overall I thought they were the weakest of last season. And I'd agree with with Den, I like the dark stuff! But I'm 29, and I saw how terrified my nieces and nephews were by the Xmas tree - there has to be balance.
There were plot holes etc in Xmas Invasion, but I was carried along by the story throughout and found the jokes funny - this wasn't the case in AoL or WW3. Hopefully the lighter episodes will improve and catch up with the darker ones - though we do have to remember that this is a 'family show' and therefore will be sometimes written for the pre-pubescents. |

Just watching EOTW from Series One on DVD and per chance caught some of the dialogue on subtitles....From the Silver Devastation, the sponsor of the main event..The Face of Boe. I am now wondering if the Face of Boe has come from part of the universe which has been destroyed by you know who which are returning in series two.

There are quite a few- apart from those to be found on the home planet there are others who turn up all over the galaxy. The first doctor had fun with one called the Monk for example and the second doctor goes out in the epic "War Games" where a rogue timelord is running "war games" by stealing soldiers from history and we first meet the other Time Lords when the Doctor calls them in to assist him defeat the rogue Time Lord. Thats before we meet the Master who makes the Doctors life tough through the rest of the series. there are others. Thats why the "last of the Time Lords " idea is a bit odd. The Time Lords are by definition active throughout history - most stay at home but some are presumably always travelling. Some of the ones who travel are decidedly bad so you can't see them dashing home to defend the homeworld they left and the time Lords they hate against the Daleks. That means that to kill them all you need a Time Lord homing weapon that finds them wherever they are in time and space or you have to destroy them while they are still all at home by finding them before they discover time travel. To do the first, you would need Rose- like power to see all time and space and, if anyone had that degree of powe,r the war would have been final - with either one complete winner or two complete losers. You don't escape from Rose the Goddess. The second option just throws up horrible logic - how does the Doctor kill the Daleks in the Time war if the Daleks destroyed his ancestors and how is he left if his ancestors all died? Basically i would bet on there being Time Lords left somewhere - probably of the bad kind. |

I seem to remember the Time Lords being able to recall the Doctor's TARDIS back to Gallifrey with ease. The Daleks and Time Lords fought the Time War inside the Time Vortex (according the doctor who annual 2006). So it's possible that all the Time Lords got caught up in the fighting at some point.
Gallifrey was removed from Time and space, so nobody could interfere with Gallifrey's past. The Time War may well have changed that. Or the Daleks discovered Gallifreys exact location and thus cept up a climatic stale mate of a battle which the Doctor i assume ended, with his inferneo. |

The bit about 'someone from the Doctor's past' is an interesting one as it could refer to someone who's been seen in this current run, or someone from the original series.
I don't think we will see the Daleks again for a long time, but if it is someone from the original series the only character I could imagine it being (where it would be both relevant and have some impact) is The Master. If it is someone from the new series, I would think - myself - it could be Adam. He's bound to return sooner or later (metal opening forehead and all) and I would imagine that he would be holding something of a grudge. And the technology in his head, plus his trip in the TARDIS, could be a big help to the Cybermen. |

I find that a bit hard to believe - I have no idea who Derek whateverhisname is because I've never watched Most Haunted (apart from snippets here and there whilst channel surfing - enough to persuade me that I would not wast my time with such rubbish!)
Hopefully this will turn out not to be true - RTD got away with his references to currently popular TV programmes in Big Wolf last year because it fitted in with the plot but if he's also using another TV progrmme as a plot device this year, I think he's probably going a bit too far. |

Having checked out the Manchester Online artic;e, he does say that it's a very brief appearance. I suppose that the source is probably reliable enough and we shouldn't judge it until we see it but I have to admit, I'm not too keen on the idea of it really.

Personally, I'd(like others)like to see what the Time War didto the Time Lords, after all, The Doctor's always metioning it. Also, I think it was corrct of one of the posters to say that perhaps the Time Lord's are 'living' in the heart of the TARDIS..after all, isn't the Doctor's priority always to make sure none of his enemys or ANYONE for that matter gets hold of the TARDIS..just a thought linked withthat clue |

Oh, and it would be pants. Yes, the man of science bit, along with this, makes me think it will be a short scene added to inject some humour into the proceedings whilst the Doctor himself goes off to do the real work of getting rid of the spirits, perhaps? |
