LOL...I'm not wise.

I will post my idea later on. It's just that there's a decent night's telly on tonight.
Celeb Big Brother, Ricky Gervais meets larry David, then Ricky Gervais's 'Politics', then celeb BB live.
So I'll be while...in fact I might have to post tomorrow.

It seems that the Master returning has been pooh-poohed thanks to a poster mentioning RTD's comments that it was ‘too early to bring the Master back.’

Hold your horses.

So when does it cease to be too early? RTD's comments were about season 1. Would the end of season 2 still be too early? Especially if it was literally the last minute? What I mean is that RTD has the security of knowing he has a third series. This means he can do the big US TV style cliff-hanger for season 3.

The Master is currently inside the TARDIS... he is also from the Doctor's past. He's out of regenerations so would need to do a Lord Voldemort and get a body from somewhere. The Cybermen have the ability to provide The Master's raw energy/soul with a body (albeit a cybernetic one) thus leading to the teaming up of two big Who rivals that have been rumoured at the end of Who 2.

The only real flaw with this plan is that Russell is very aware of new fans. He would need to introduce the concept of The Master at some point throughout season two for the cliff-hanger to have any emotional effect on the new audience and not just old fans who know what a danger The Master could pose. If the season two trigger word is 'darkness' then perhaps we will be seeing hints of The Master throughout the whole run?

Yes, you said it yourself, really.

Still, that doesn't necessarily mean that it won't happen.

Personally, I'm all for the new 'evil' timelord that the Doctor is supposed to meet earlyish in series two who joins them for a while and then disappears off in a Tardis of his own.

I've always been keen on the idea of a brand new adversary for this brand new series.

I am all for the return of The Master if they cast someone decent in the part and actually do something with the character and his background rather the usual dominating the universe angle.

Think The Valeyard would take too much explaining to a new audience but thought he was a great character.

I agree with BG when he says it would take too much to explain the Valeyard to a new audience.

But there could be some clues here as to the role and identity of the new character.

Do you think it is a coincidence that Don Warrington who played Rassilon in the audio adventures is popping up in one of the Cybermen stories playing The President? The President of what though........?

But how was he introduced last time? I'm asking both because I don't remember Trial of a Timelord, and because I would hope that while today's audience is different they would still have the intelligence to follow a reasonably complex plot/exposition.

Apologies if that sounds patronising, it's not intended

The plot of Trial of a Time Lord all got very convoluted towards the end of the 13 week run as Robert Holmes died before finsihing the last part and then Eric Saward who stepped in fell out with the producer. In a nutshell..The Valeyard who was the prosecutor in the trial turned out to be the dark side of the Doctor...between his 12-13 regeneration.he basically wanted to steal his remaining regenerations to exist. The Master exposed who The Valeyard was, The Doctor saved the day as usual and The Valeyard escaped.
