Mersey Life
Previously in episode 5 (Monday 2nd Jan 06)… … Julie spends new years eve in Bev’s bar with Claire and Andrew … Terry says his goodbyes to Jackie the night before the funeral … The residents of Dukinfield count down to new year and watch fireworks go up as Terry flees the hospital and Jackie for the last time! Episode 6 (Thursday 5th Jan 06) (Opens with a shot of the avenue. A hurst followed by a black car pulls round the corner, It pulls up revealing Jackie’s coffin inside.) (Cuts to inside Bev’s house, Everyone is dressed smart and in black. Adam is looking out of the net curtains.) Adam - She’s here Bev - Terry, the cars are ready (Terry is in the kitchen sat at the table looking into space, Adam and Bev peer through the door.) Adam - (whispering) he hasn’t said a word today Bev - I don’t remember him talking much yesterday! (Bev goes in the room.) Bev - the cars are here Terry Terry - I heard! (pause) Come on, lets get it over and done with eh. (Cuts to outside. Neighbours are out watching, The Dean family, Claire and Andrew, etc, all of whom are attending the funeral. Bev, shortly followed by Terry, Adam and Joshua come outside. They put the flowers and reefs they were holding into the Hurst by the coffin. Terry looks very distraught as he climbs into the car, everyone is deadly silent. The Hurst pulls away from the curb, and down the avenue, the car following.) (Cuts to Claire and Andrew) Claire - It’s so sad, and to think he is still out there somewhere! Andrew - I know babe, come on, get in the car, we will be late. (Cuts to the inside of the car where Bev, Terry, Adam and Joshua are.) Bev - it’s going to be ok Terry, just you wait and see. Adam - Isn’t Sammy coming? Bev - no, she said it’s to soon after Susan’s funeral. Adam - yes, I understand. (Cuts to the church yard, the car pulls up and everyone gets out. Its still very silent, six men carry the coffin into the church.) (Cuts to the Dean family at home) Sharon - Perhaps we should’ve gone? Tom - You what? You hated Jackie, you said she was a stuck up snob! Sharon - Yes, but that is besides the point! We seem to be the only ones not there Tom - Yes well we have got our own problems to deal with, look at this letter that came this morning. Sharon - It’s from the hospital! (she reads it.) They want to start treatment as soon as possible, there’s an appointment for next week. That’s great, we should tell Julian. (Cuts back to the church, Terry has got up to say a speech.) Terry - (he is very upset) I would like to thank you all for coming today. Jackie wasn’t a saint. She was the biggest bitcher I can think of! She was disliked by many of you, just as she dislike many of you. But what is important is the fact that the community has pulled together, we are all in danger from this person and Jackie helped us realise that. (He starts crying more) I’ll miss you Jackie, where-ever you are. Watching down on us, I hope you are proud, because we are proud of you. (fades away and returns outside where the coffin is being lowered.) Vicar - Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; in sure and certain hope of the Resurrection into eternal life (Everybody throws on a piece of soil. Tears are running down peoples faces.) (Cuts to Bev’s bar. The funeral is over and everyone has retreated there for a drink.) Claire - His speech. What was that about? Julie - Bless him, he is finding it really hard! Claire - I know, grieving is the worst human emotion to suffer. Leave him to it, that’s what I say. Julie - You want that drink topping up? Claire - ye go on then please. (Pans round to Bev behind the bar giving Tom a drink.) Bev - How come you didn’t come to the funeral? Tom - I don’t have any black clothes Bev - that’s not an excuse Tom! Tom - I know, we had other things to do today that’s all. (Bev turns to Julie) Bev - hello love, what can I get you? Julie - a white wine and whatever Claire is drinking. Bev - coming up… (Julie turns to Tom) Julie - how are the kids? Sharon? Not seen then in a while. Tom - they are fine, everyone is fine! I wish people would just get off my back and leave us to it! (Tom gets up and moves elsewhere) Julie - whats got into him? Bev - I don’t know, he has had long face since he came in, family issues probably. You know what them lot are like, if you ask me, they are a weird bunch! £2.65 please Julie. (Cuts to the toilets. Terry is sat in a cubicle crying, he has a knife, he has never been so miserable.) Terry - I’m coming now sweetheart, I’ll be with you. Not long now. (He cuts the knife write across his wrist, blood shoots out, he screams in pain.) (Cuts to the bar where everyone heard what had happened. Claire goes in to the toilets to find blood pouring out from underneath the cubical door, she screams as she tries to get into the cubicle. Bev runs in and smashes the door through. Terry lies unconscious on the floor in a pool of his own blood.) |
