Doctor Who at No.6 - thats quite an achievement. I dont find it fair that soaps have to be included in the list - they win every year!

There are heck of a lot more 'ITV dissers' in the soaps forum than there are in here.

Cripes. I've only watched 5 of the top 20 shows.

Of those 5, the News at 10 doesn't really count, I dipped into Red Nose, saw the CL Final in the pub and only a few episodes of Little Britain - leaving Dr Who as the only only I fully watched.

Must be something wrong with my telly watching taste as I never watch a moment of any soap, "reality" show or anything with "Celeb" in the title.

Here's hoping the 2006 list will have England's World Cup victory at #1!

I'm not so surprised that BB was in the top 20 - it was hardly a highlight. If anyone wonders why the BBC News was in the top 20, its mainly because of the major News Items that have happened last year - ie the London Bombings, The Tsunami and so forth...

And ITV beats the BBC at a score of 9-11. This proves that ITV relies on 3 or 4 soaps and reality shows a day to get ratings - whereas the BBC rely on good dramas, the odd soap, average comedy and the odd reality TV show - oh, and good news coverage. BBC always get the good stories first, where as ITV waits for a soap to finish before making a News Flash.

I don't understand this obsession people have with the ratings and the endless need to gloat that one programme is doing better than another. Everyone wants their favourite show to do well and be watched/appreciated by a number of people but what one person likes, someone else might not. That is the nature of the game. At the end of the day it isn't just the ratings that are taken into consideration but also the viewing appreciation figures.

Well I agree - ratings only reflect the interest in the show and not the quality.

But I'm just sick to the teeth with ITV deliberatly trying to beat the BBC - I hear they're making a new series (forgotten what it was called) - its about a scientist who travells back in time to find out how his wife died. Does this sound familiar?
They've even admitted that they're making it to compete with Doctor Who.

Rather than putting it out to compete with DW, surely they should be putting it out in a slot which courts DW's audience?

Otherwise, a potentially good programme might be dismissed as being a 'rival' and overlooked simply because of how it has been placed.

One the best things to have come from the revived DW is that it has made tv execs take a good long look at their schedules and realise that there is a fair share of the audience who want an alternative to constant 'reality' and 'celeb' shows.

Well there was chance for it to be that way - but ITV mucked it up and said it was going to be 'a rival' - so its their fault.

What a seriously tragic list. No relevance whatsoever without Extras listed at least in the top 5, and it really does highlight how pathetic British TV is.

That is not really a good agenda to have is it. Only making a programme to compete with another. They can't have that much faith in their schedules or brand then.

It will all end in tears mark my words!

What is this list?

Top 20 according to who?

Anybody can make up a Top 20 list.

So who is this list according to?
Is it a top 20 according to ratings?
Is it a popularity poll?
