This isn't a problem, it's actually really useful for automatically removing the commercial breaks!

When you add such a programme to the copy list, it'll automatically be broken into separate titles everytime the aspect ratio changes, which means the commercial breaks will be in their own titles. Simply delete those titles, then merge the remaining titles (which make up the actual programme) together to easy removal without having to chapter mark and delete them manually!

Actually, about the exclamation mark: I never found it worked reliably. Many titles are simply not flagged when they should be, or flagged when they shouldn't. I have a DVR-5100H

But if you copy the ads to dvd then delete them all that recorded space is then wasted as it can't be reused

The commercials are removed from the copy list before copying to DVD: they are not copied and removed later (The Pioneer recorders are incapable of removing chapters from DVD video media, BTW). Are you thinking of "chapter hiding" that +R recorders usually perform?

No.
As I edit the recordings precisely I never have the exclamation mark present when making the copy list.
I assumed(wrongly it seems) that the splitting into multiple titles occurred when copying to dvd,not when entering the copy list.

Don't bother with precise editing as it stops high speed recording to DVD plus I can get it accurate enough that you don't notice the adverts starting.

Slight side question. Has anyone got Video mode chapter marking working? It's a setup option that you can mark a recording every 5-15 minutes. Not tried it whilst recoding striahg to a DVD but it doesn't work on mine when recording to HDD.

Ironically, because hi-speed copying is no longer possible, the chapter markers are not honoured - they are just created every ten minutes (or whatever you have it set to). So "frame accurate" is anything but! (this only applies to Video mode discs)

This is only for direct recording to Video Mode DVD (or real-time copy, which is the same thing) and has no effect on HDD recordings. It is compensation for not being able to put chapters in later (or not honouring the original marks if copying) Shame, really, it'd be nice to have large titles broken up a bit automatically.
