Is anyone else finding it difficult to keep on top of them?

I set myself the task of recording the whole series, as I have fond memories of it from my 80s childhood. I wouldn't have bothered if I had done my reseacrh first: SEVENTY SEVEN episodes! Bugger. It's bloody hard work trying to DVDR them all.

Anyhow, my point is ... UKDrama has got a bit laissez-faire about when it's showing Howards Way. Episodes all ove rthe place. I think there are four episodes on this Monday alone! My Sky planner shows that the first two episodes are being rerun this weekend. We should be up to about episode 45 by now, and UK Drama is not making it easy for me.

Anyone else having this problem? We are past the halfway mark now, but it feels like I have been recording Howards Way for years and years and years, and I have no idea if I have missed an episode or not. And now I find it's out oin DVD soon anyway ...

I am also confused by this,,,i posted this a while back on the TV forums...basically, they show them every day at midday, then repeat them at 6pm (I think). There was (until xmas) and omnibus on Sundays from 9am-midday, yet if they are showing one every weekday, how come the omnibus only shows 3 episodes??

God knows. I do know though, that I missed about 3 episodes and suddenly we were two more series into the whole thing!

I may have to wait until the DVD is out, as i've now totally lost track!! Do you have release date?

I missed this series in the 80s and have been watching for the first time since it started on UK Drama a couple of months ago. There are 78 episodes.

Originally it was broadcast at 7 am each day and repeated at noon then in the evening then the whole week's five episodes on a Sunday. Around Christmas they moved it to 12 noon each day, repeated in the evening.

Last week was the start of the 4th series. Series 3 ended with the plane going down.

On Monday, January 16th it moves to 6 am and the noon one is gone, the evening one is still there and also 3.30 am.

If they broadcast the whole thing the last episode in the series will be on February 24th. But ... UK Drama has an annoying habit of stopping before the full series is shown then showing endless repeats of what has already been broadcast.

I can't think why they omit the last series in these dramas, maybe it's something to do with copyright or more likely just bad planning! They broadcast all but the last series of Dangerfield and The Duchess of Duke Street. There may be more which I didn't watch.

At least 6am was predictable!

I have DVD'd the first 40-ish episodes, and have all 10-ish that are on this week set on my SkyPlus. I will spend the weekend weeding them out and trying to DVD them. Nice to know others are struggling, too.

It doesn't help that I haven't been watching the series religiously. I was hoping to get the whole lot on DVD and then just dip in and out whenever the urge took me. As I haven't been watching it, and have been trying to DVD it, it's been bloody hard going.

I did not do my research, and wouldn't have bothered to record the damn thing if I'd known it went on so long! To think, it could still be running now if Maurice Colbourne hadn't passed away.

Here's a link to the series one DVD:

Enjoy,

I made a post on Howards' Way a while back and got hardly any replies...

Howards' Way is fantastic! I'm watching it again (my 2nd time) and it's just as good as I remember it! UK Drama will probably be repeating all the series, as they did the last time.

It is so glitzy and glamorous! Jack had a heart attack at the end of today's episodes on the boat, and Tom helped him. It was so sad beacuse I couldn't help but think that Maurice Colbourne would in the next series pass away because of a heart attack. I think it is dreadfully sad - he looks so slim and healthy!

However, the show continued for a 6th series. It wasn't quite the same without Tom but it was still really good and could have lasted for many years more as it was great right up till the end! I remember waching the last one and thinking it was just another episode, there was no clue that it was the last. It shouldn't have been axed as it was such a great show.

Although, it must have been extremely costly to make - all those helicopters, boats, flashy cars and houses, the fashion... Great stuff!

It was the only soap my Dad watched as he likes boats. But I loved all the glitz, glam and bitching, lol.

I just did a TV search to see when it was on, and it's on now, so I flicked over straight away. I'd love to see Kate O'Mara again.

What series/episode are they at ??

They are about half-way through Series 4 (1988) just now. I think Kate O'Mara comes into the show in the next series as Laura Wilde.

What happened in today's episode anyway, as I missed it?

This is how it ended...

When Leo arrives at Leisurecruise, he finds Ken angrily throwing out the remainder of Mark and Sarah Foster’s belongings. When he raises the subject of Ken planning to race in the world championships himself, they engage in a bitter dispute in which Ken reveals he plans to employ Mike Hanley to race alongside him. Leo officially resigns, and Ken angrily demands he leave the premises. Bill locates Jack in the local turf accountant’s, and they travel back to the Mermaid Yard. Tom learns on the radio that Barracuda is close to clinching victory in the trans-Atlantic race, and excitedly seeks out Emma. He shares the news with Bill and Jack when they return, and they find that the Orkadian has vanished from its mooring cradle and is being steered out of the harbour. Jack can only despairing watch its departure, proclaiming “Someone’s nicked my bloody boat!”

It was episode 8. Kate O'Mara arrives in six episodes (answering my own questions !!)

Oh no, the announcer just said they are moving it to 4pm, which means - after really getting into it this week (thanks to this thread) - I'm now going to miss it. I won't be able to see Kate O'Mara

I wonder if You Rang M'Lord is still on at 5.30 as I also love that.

I have ended up with about ten episodes of HW on my Sky+ (including loads of repeats and multiple recordings!) and have been trying to DVD them.

In the process I found a magnificent and very thorough episode guide, which has made my life much easier. The Sky on-screen description of the episode is easy enough to marry up to the details listed here:

Enjoy!

We used to watch it every Sunday night & really enjoyed it. My sister lives in Southampton & on one occaison when we went down to see her, we went to the "Jolly Sailor" which used to feature on the show. We're only on freeview, so we can't get UK Drama, which is a shame - bet mum would love to see the programme again.

chuff I love you. Thanks for the link.
I watched Howards Way 1st time round but have only managed to see a few episodes of this re-run. This is one soap(along with Sons and Daughters) that I would never tire of watching.
I always said I would buy it if it came out on dvd. Off to play.com.
I don't suppose S&D is available on dvd.

I didn't realise UK Drama were showing HW at the weekends too, so I caught a little bit of it today.

It was the episode where Abby tried to commit suicide by jumping into the river, then saved by Leo. However, it seemed to be out of sequence with the episodes I watched last week in the 6pm slot ?????????

There was also a party which features several tracks by Nik Kershaw and Go West. Very 80s. Also saw Roy from EastEnders who had a part and the man who plays the PM in Little Britain.

(The Chuffer blushes at Aquarius's declaration...)

I think UKD is showing series one episodes at the weekend (Sunday afternoon slow), and carrying on with the series in chronological order in the week. The Abby drowning episode is quite an early one but, as I am not watching them as I am DVDing them, I can't be more specific. The episode guide will help you solve that query!!

I THINK I am on track and haven't missed anything (Chuff crosses everything for luck).

I'm loving Howards Way. Always watched it on a sunday night before getting my bag ready for school for the following morning.

Had a major crush on Edward Highmore who is Leo and I'm finding myself drawn to him again.

A quick bit of trivia - Edward Highmore's son, Freddie, plays the part of "Charlie" in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Series 5 starts tomorrow!

I think this is quite a good series from what I remember. What I can remember well is a scene where Jan is in her car and is in hot pursuit of somebody, lol, and it being really dramatic. However, I will miss Polly...she was always one of my faves, and it was a shame she left. I always enjoyed the scenes with her and Gerald! It will also be Tom's last season unfortunately.

Also, I always thought it was funny how Jan is played by Jan Harvey, and how Kate's last name is Harvey. This meant that if she'd ever used her maiden name in the show, she'd be Jan Harvey! lol.

This series looks even glossier - their budget must have been increased! I remember reading that Series 4 was meant to have been the last, but the show was so successful (both here and abroad) that they had to bring it back.

I'm enjoying Howard's Way, but just 'dip in' for the odd episode, as I don't have time to watch much TV, so I haven't noticed the lack of continuity.

Don't most of the women look emaciated though; their clothes look as if they're on a human coathanger! Also, I'd forgotten that annoying clipped way Dulcie Gray delivered her lines.

Perhaps it hasn't worn so well after all!
