Sound From Sky box through DVD player to PLASMA

Hi,

Got a slight problem, im moving house, and in the new house is a built in 50in Pioneer plasma screen included, sorry dont know the model number yet! Its about 18 months old!

(No pioneer media box supplied I don't think)

So I have to get sound from some where as there is no speakers.

Also I need to a tv tuner/sky box.

I want the plasma to get the TV feed from the Sky digibox I have a Sony vtx-760u digibox if that helps.

I was thinking of getting a "Home Cinema Surround Sound Kit" from Amazon.co.uk

Sony DAV-DZ100

But the problem is the DVD player only only has a Scart Out, No Scart In.

So im not sure how to connect it.

I would have thought the sky box goes into the back of the dvd player (acting as an amp for the speakers), then the dvd player into the back of the plasma???

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Stuart

Think of managing the video and audio separately.

The audio and video signal for DVDs are generated from within the Sony and can pass the video out to the TV. Audio is routed to its own speakers.

To add other devices like a Sky box you need to be able to feed in the video to the Sony and forward it to the TV (which you cant) or send it directly to the TV via a 2nd scart or switch box.

You need to feed the audio from Sky into the Sony - if it were Sky+ you would be connecting via optical digital Toslink cable but as its ordinary Sky (no 5.1 sound) you can use a phono left/right pair into the Sony's AUX input socket - if it has one!

Do check this as some of these DVD/amp set ups have minimum external inputs.

Firstly you would need to check what inputs the screen does have

Secondly set a budget for the investment.

Personally I would consider getting a "proper" AVR which will be able to handle your sound requirements and also act as the switch for your video sources (many will convert signals to different types - eg S.Video to Component) meaning you will only need 1 set of wires into the screen.

Does anyone have a Pioneer Plasma thats about 18months old, not sure if the current models have been around for a while or not??

Thanks Scorpio and Astaroth, I did think an AVR was more realistic, I dont really want to spend to much as the house is costing a lot as it is!

Probably keep upgrading things over the next few years!

What do people suggest for what I have already got,

Sky digibox Sony VTX 760u
Pioneer Plasma
Sony DAV-DZ100 DVD Home Cinema

All I want is sound and picture, doesnt have to be the best quality for the time being.

Thanks Again

Does this post mean you have bought the sony which you were 'thinking about' att 22:09 yesterday.............?

Anyway, I checked the spec on Amazon and there doesnt seem to be any additional audio inputs, cetainly not an optical or coaxial digital one so you can add Sky+ effectively.

However, as it has scart in, it may be that you can use the sound signal from scart and the Sony will amplify it. I guess this must be the case or there would be no point in having scart in would there..........

Best give it a try if you have it, I suppose - If it doesnt work well with your STB take it back.

The Sony DAV-DZ100 doesnt have sart in, that mistake on the Amazon website.
PS. Havent bought it yet, I like it because of the Divx playback.

What would you suggest for a budget of about £200 - £300?

Need
1. dvd player (divx would be good)
2. Speakers

Thanks

That is correct. The dvd's sound is generated from within the home cinema system then fed to the home cinema systems speakers, not the tv speakers. Which should'nt be used with a home cinema system anyway. It distorts things. Well to my ears it does.
