Ok, say I started recording Big Brother at 9pm and at 9:30pm I want to sit down and watch it from 9pm but carry on recording til 10pm...

How can I do this on the Humax 9200T ? as I cant work this out.

Ah the fabled chase play. Unfortunately you can't do this on the 9200t.

There are a couple of "solutions". One: make sure the box is on the channel you are recording and simply rewind the buffer from 9.30pm to 9pm and watch all the way through to 10.

Two you stop the recording and then immediately start a second recording. Then watch the first recording followed by the second. i.e. you will have two recordings a 9-9.30pm portion and then a 9.30 to 10pm portion.

thanks for your reply, you are right about fabled, some say you can on all Humax, which unit is this available on>?

I did do what you said secondly, thanks and worked well.

With regard to the buffer, would you i.e. walk in at 9:30 having had it recording bigbrother say then leave it on that channel and stop recording and play from begining then the buffer would record?

No that wont work because as soon as you watch the recording the buffer is wiped out.

I think most other PVRs have chase play, especially the top end machines, so its weird that the 9200t doesn't. But of course it might be added in a software update soon.

Don't build you hopes up.

Humax, quite rightly in my opinion, are concentrating on fixes, rather than enhancements at this time.

Agreed. I think Humax have mentioned on DS threads they will look at enhancements but only after the work on bug type issues. I would like to think that Humax are working on this in an efficient and thorough manner, without any undue delay, however I wouldnt want them to rush the work to do this either in case it leads to other problems further down the line.

There are a few issues outstanding to address but if not all of them can be resolved in one go then maybe they will make one update available as one or or group of fixes are ready; and when others are fixed, another update will be available.

Apart from the radio record bug what do they have to fix?

I found this web site useful but I think its lacking one or two things.

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/whisper/bugs.html

I have read posts recently and in the past of the humax loosing the recordings list. If you found yourself here then you may noticed the other threads? Like about people who had/have lockups or no sound from the second of two recordings happening at the same time with certain channels.

True barry BUT imo "chase play" is one of those fixes ..im sure its meant to have it but they messed upo before putting the boxes out as finished article...

In there advertisements for the 9200 they sell it as having momentous time shift...momentous being the 2 hours buffer..

and heres the biggie, the one that helped sell the box to me >>

As a PVR, Duovisio utilizes its preloaded software functions with a built-in 160GB hard disk drive. This allows for assorted trick play, diverse formats of recording and recording services playback, all through the time shift recording function

that above sounded to me like "assorted trick play" & "diverse formats of recording and recording services playback" where and are IN ADDITION TO time shift function...so if you take away the time shifting where is the assorted trick plays i can do and wheres the diverse recording AND RECORDING SERVICES????...

without chaseplay my humax fuctions just like a BASIC vhs recorder and according to the way its been advertised and sold i really do think that i could take the box back and say to them thats its not fuctioning way its meant to as it dont allow viewing of a recorded prpgram till the recording has stopped if its been recorderd on another channel...every other pvr does and so should this NEW humax???

Of course they didn't mess up and leave chase play off.

I am not going to get into a debate about how it is advertised, but as you read these forums before purchase, surely you were aware of the limitations.

As for being a basic VCR.....can a VCR record 2 streams at the same time? with the addition of you being able to watch a 3rd.

I think those who like to record radio, or have sound on their second recordings, or have the correct title saved in timers, or those who suffer many lock-ups would prefer to have fixes for those before enhancements....

I understand the frustration too. I couldnt believe I bought this box without a proper 'chase play for a recording program' function. I took it for granted that it would do this because my other PVR does this too which is older. But I didnt check this out before I bought it did I so its my own fault

Oh well, the Fusion 100 was released like this and then the functionality was added later (why not on launch - when types of DVD recorders do it too?!) so I guess Humax are going the same route. Maybe there was a cut off point given to the software developers so that the release would not be delayed and it wasnt ready with this included. Who knows?? Maybe it was always going to be released like that and then added in post release.

I guess the box will continuously record any channel you are on for something like up to 2 hours on a loop. Thats why its able to carry out an assortment of trick play (or chase play) functions. Like pausing live tv. Rewinding live tv and fast forwarding through bits you dont want to watch like adverts.

It is also possible to chase play on a prgram that is currently recording - but as we all know - you have to stay on that channel/program and not change channel etc. Thats what people have been posting about on the wish list thread - being able to start watching a recording before its finished recording - at any point - without being limited to whether its available in the 'buffer' feature.

EDIT: convincing your retailer the box functions like a basic VCR may be a challenge though

Lol k barrys right and marcdavis hit the nail on the head..i too bought the box expecting the box to do what other pvrs can do that went before..im happy with my humax and even happier now thats theres a fair chance we will soon have chase play...as i said i was happy with my humax UNTIL i bought it and came here to basically read about how good my buy was and it was only then i found out what it couldnd do and was bit miffed...i was tempted to take it back within the 7 days and maybe travel thru to another city to get a toppy from a shop i know that sells it then i thought ok ill get chaseplay but might end up worse with other things..i notice that toppy has taps to show extended program info and im guessing they mewan the info we humax owners already get by pressing the "i" button...what i havnt learnt here is what is standard freeview ware and wghat is a box "extra"..ie..the info we get from the i button..do all freeviw boxes give the same or is this a humax exta..and if not is the humaxs info "prettier"...i never use picture in picture but see marcdavis would like it to happen even when recording as thats a good idea..so u see that and then u go looiking at other boxes functions and u see that the toppy allows picture in picturewhilst recording 2 channels so u can in effect watch 2 channels while recording to others...Then piucture wise what gives the best overal picture is it our humax ?..wish someone who owns both boxes like barry could give us an honest idea of the pros and cons and differences between the 2 boxes..im keeping my humax as its great to have but if chase play isnt added then im into gadgets and so would like to own the gadget that does the most so would probable do what others seem to have done and but another box...

ok ive had my 2 cents lol thanks foe great board again folks

You get the same extended info on both boxes, though the Toppy doesn't show genre info at present; the TAPs that enhance the info on the Toppy do various thing, ranging from just changing the visual style to integrating it better with other TAPs or even allowing you to download and display more information, such as film and programme reviews from the Radio Times.

Picture-wise, there's one user here who has both boxes, and doesn't notice any substantial difference between them.
