Refugees in Zaire eat Gorilla's out of dire need, the pelts get sold as a by product. It's not like they were raised for the fur like other fur farms like mink.

I live by own morality and if that is different from yours then so be it but it is up to me and my conscience, not yours.

Um, yes. That's basically what I said.....what's the problem?

I am no fur expert, but common sense tells me leather is not comparable, and anyone using that as an argument to justify fur is being ridiculous. In case I have to spell that out: Leather comes from domesticated farm animals, who are bred and killed in regulated circumstances. Petes fur on the other hand, will likely have come either from cruelly snared wild animals, or even worse, the same wild species cruelly bred in the confines of small cages.

Anyway, a quick search found this site with lots of pictures that look similar fur to Petes coat http://www.colobustrust.org/colobus.html

So it does look to be a kind of monkey rather than gorrilla, not that that makes it better, they are fairly small so a lot of the creatures must have been killed to just make the one garment of the size that Pete Burns wears. Very sad.

Looks like Colobus monkey to me. They are beautiful and suit the look far better than any human could.

I thought it looked like the fur of my most favourite primate, the cotton top tamarin. Pete makes me sick!

I agree.....it is very sad

I get so annoyed when people try and justify the wearing of real fur with wearing leather too.....like so many people here have already pointed out, leather is a by-product of meat. Killing animals for vanity is completely different IMHO

Watching Pete on CBB last night, put me in mind of that character in Silence of the Lambs, I could almost picture him wearing a coat made out of human skin and justifying it by saying 'well, I didn't buy it, I didn't kill them myself'

Anyway, if anyone still doubts the cruelty involved in real fur http://www.heathermillsmccartney.com...downloads.php#

Pete made a good point when he put it to the others....that they wear makeup that has been tested on animals.

He kind of pointed out the hypocrisy of their views as soon as he said that.

Mmmmm.... tasty meat. So all you have to have is a reciept saying "The fur in this coat comes from an animal who's meat has been eaten". There, sorted. Now, who's for monkey brains?

Not ALL makeup is tested on animals these days, it's quite easy to buy 'cruelty free' cosmetics http://www.buav.org/gocrueltyfree/

Plus, two wrongs don't make a right anyway.......so Pete's argument is weak, IMHO

I don't believe that the coat is gorilla fur, I think it's probably fake, and Pete knows it is. Bit naughty to wind people up, but if they're daft enough to believe it, too bad. Certainly not worth getting worked up about, even if it was real fur - it's almost certainly an antique, and you don't destroy an antique ivory item just because we no longer kill elephants for ivory.

I personally have no need of a fur coat, as it never gets cold enough in London, but I don't object to people in very cold countries wearing real fur for warmth. Not from endangered species, though. Why not mink? They're vicious, nasty little creatures that you can't eat, can't make pets of, and they destroy the local wildlife, but they've got lovely coats!

The only reason mink destroy the wildlife is because they've escaped from mink farms.

If he says it's Gorilla then "it is".

I would do the decent thing and steal it at night and either cremate it or get Dennis to dig a big hole and bury it.Maybe even a funeral service.

Meat is Murder and so is Fur.

What about rats? They get eradicated anyway and it's all animal skin at the end of the day.

And the people who buy fur couldn't possibly pretend to get horrified since a lot of the fur in the UK that comes from unspecified animals is actually dog fur anyway.

It looks like the coat is made of skunk

Don't get me started on rodents - had a nightmare 2 months of em

Oh, and just as a side note to all the Pete fans. He claims not to have given any thought to the fur issue yet he's also given interviews saying that his falling out with Morrisey was over the fur issue.

Is Pete telling a few porkies by any chance?

He is the living image of the cartoon Cruella!

I hate fur, am veggie and don't waer leather; I was actually more horrified by Rula's tale of a Buddhist ripping the heart of a live sheep out through its mouth, than by the sight of the coat.

PS That's not excusing the coat..but how could anyone watch a sheep being killed in this way , and describe it without flinching? She's clearly mad.

If the housemate's makeup was 'cruelty free' then I'm sure Jodie and her gang would have said so when Pete mentioned it.
Do you honestly believe that all of them in there brought in 'cruelty free' makeup?...Because I don't for a minute.

I didn't say two wrongs make a right...I just made the point that people can be hypocrites and just as guilty as who they are pointing fingers at.

I thought that was dreadful but I couldn't work out the logistics of it. I mean if it was drinking water there wouldn't be room to get a hand into its mouth.

How do we know the gorilla was killed for it's fur? It could just be an ex zoo gorilla who died of natural causes.
