Playing on other DVD players
croyde

have just dubbed from the HDD on my 710 to a DVD-RW video mode and finalised it. Plays on the 710 but is not recognised by my Panasonic DVD player or my Sony Vaio laptop, both around 5 years old.

Both can play the DVD+R/RWs that I made on my Daewoo though.

Any ideas, cheers?

Croyde,

Did you finalise the disc before trying on your Panny/Vaio? (See 710's manual page 39)

"both around 5 years old" = no chance

Worth investing in something like the Sony DVPNS30 which can be bought for £49 as your second DVD player. Spec is as follows...... DVD-R,DVD-RW (VR & Video Mode),DVD+R,DVD+RW ,CDR/RW,MP3,VCD,SVCD,JPEG

This will play anything the 710 produces even unfinalised -RW vr mode.

Then get yourself some 6x -rw's and fast dubbing will always be available also.

I use the above setup with verbatim discs and its great to be able to dub films/programs to discs in minutes and take them to the room with the other player when someone wants to watch something else.

For £49 its not worth banging your head against the wall with compatability problems if you have spent good money a 710/910

I wouldn't say there is no chance, I have got a Pioneer DV-530 in the bedroom which must be at least 5 years old, and that will play anything you throw at it.

Is it not strange that the two players are ok with +R/RW but not with -RW Video?

Any how it played fine on my brother's supermarket special DVD player.

Should have mentioned in my first post that the Discs were bought about 2 or more years ago and do not mention a speed on the packaging. They are Sony and it says version 1.1.

Thanks for the input, tho' people, cheers.

I know it doesn't help you much but my panasonic DVD player will even play the VR mode -RW discs with out any problems. As does my PC and laptop.
So it does suggest that it may be your discs that your using that's causing the problem.
Worth a go with some new ones I think.
