Ooooh yeh, the Virgin Radio Poll, yes, the Beatles and members of the Beatles make up most of that chart! haha. I know James Blunt is #10, but every year they have a "newbie" in the chart, they disappear next year. David Gray was a couple of years ago, as was Eminem etc etc. The Beatles always dominate. If James Blunt was in it even higher next year i'd be concerned, but its almost inevitable that he won't, as his music sucks arse.

Oh, and PLEASE don't flatter yourself, I have nothing against you, the "crusade" is purely against bad music, which Blunt is included in, along with Westlife, Shayne Ward and other dreadful acts.

Just clicked on the link though now, its great news for the Beatles, so thanks for that. The top 3 is monopolised with Lennon at #1, and McCartney at #2 and #3!! Awesome! Beatlemania will never die!

Why are you going on like a Beatles crusader, the thread is not about the Beatles its about is music today as good as the old days, not who is better - the beatles or James Blunt. Of course Beatlemania will never die, no one can debate that - you are going on as if you are the only person who realises this.

I will do what i want. You talk to people as if they are beneath you. You think that because you can tell everybody that the Beatles were amazing you deserve some praise, you dont. Tell us something that we dont know. You probably havent even got a Beatles album, you make facts and figures up and then cannot back up your statements.

Let me guess, you have followed the Beatles around the world and have met them on numerous occasions, you crusader

You learn't the word "crusade" off SGE and now you are beginning to abuse it....SGE, lock him back up!!

I do own a huge selection of Beatles albums. Every studio album, the anthology's, Live at the BBC, 3 compilations....and a few others, enough to keep me going!

'Starting', burbs? You must have a higher tedium-resistance than me, he started getting tedious to me about a week ago. Being as he's judged me just on my posts here, I'll have a go now. I'm suspecting he's actually much younger than he's trying to make out (certainly under 25) and lives with his elderly mother. He also seems to adopt a different personality for different forums he inhabits, he's not a bit like this at the other forum I know him from. Most strange, if I was a psychologist I suspect there would be approx 3-5 years full time work for me here...

To you, anything is more tedious than counting the chart run of Oasis' "Whatever" single! Oooooh, a week by week chart run, fascinating!!

Calling ME tedious is the most hypocritical thing you can ever say!

SGE, you can't be reading all my Coolclarity posts right then!!! I am exactly the same on there as I am in here! I have knocked Westlife in that one, instead of James Blunt in here. Same difference

As for my age, yes, i am under 25 years old, and never claimed to be otherwise. Why would I? Being old must suck!

OH, and here is a quote from one of my posts on CoolClarity.....i fail to see any difference!!

Whats the Story (Morning Glory) had the advantage of being a lot cheaper, had a lot more promotion, and had 4 singles off it. When "Peppers" was re-released, it didn't sell THAT well, it "only" peaked at #3.

Oasis also had the advantage of it being during the 1990s, like i said before, CD's were a lot cheaper, people generally have a lot more disposable income these days PLUS the population has risen.

Sgt Peppers deserves to be britains biggest selling album (even though i prefer the White Album and Rubber Soul!)

Happy days! I'm good at this, aren't I?

And still living with mother? The lack of response to that one was surprising. And can you point me to anywhere on cool clarity where you have accused a poster of being gay for buying a Westlife album?

I'm loving your 'other' favourite music, btw:

Status Quo
Iron Maiden (Paul Dianno not Bruce Dickinson)
Black Sabbath
Rolling Stones
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Queen (the early stuff not the later shite)
Deep Purple
Led Zeppelin
Saxon
Judas Priest
Motorhead
Jimi Hendrix
Stevie Ray Vaughn
BTO
The Animals
AC/DC
Rainbow
Allman Brothers
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Dave Clark 5

Nope, i don't live with my mother AND you've made a big blunder with the above. That was another poster, i replied to that post saying i liked some of those mentioned bands, but not all. Read the post carefully....i am Beatlegod on there too. Whats your screen name for that one, or you gonna get all secretive and shy on me

Although the age thing was pure guesswork with you as you said you thought i PRETENDED i was older which i never did. You did better than me though, i thought you were a woman!! hahahaha

EDIT : HAHAHAHAHAHA SEE YOU REMOVED YOUR LAST MISTAKE!! I like a few of those bands that other guy posted, but hate stuff like Status Quo, Iron Maiden, Queen and a few others.....

I don't think even gay men would buy Westlife, they normally are into Madonna, James Blunt, Kylie Minogue, I suppose you'll ask me how i know, and whatever I say you will think i am homophobic!!

(incidentally....i believe its the ones who get offended by people calling them gay that are the most homophobic, especially considering its totally harmless....the ones that go on the defensive when called it is when the alarm bells start to ring!!)

The first CD I ever picked out of the rack and liked was ABBA Gold (I was about 5 at the time) and to this day I still think ABBA produced some of the best songs for my taste.
I rarely buy any music these days - good songs dont come in a dollop anymore, i have to download them individually with LimeWire...so, in my opinion, the Golden Age of Music has long gone...

You bet, I'm curious, how do you know gay men are into buying James Blunt? And, like you also claim, listening to him on their ipods at 2am on Hampstead Heath? Let's face it, young 'un, it's not looking good for you in the 'I'm not homophobic' stakes, is it?

Words (almost) fail me. You are actually the worst kind of homophobe, one who daren't actually admit to being one. An even more loathsome type of creature.

That Burbs kid will say it can't be good....as the chart run of it was so poor! If an album fails to reach number 1 in Britain, according to him, you may as well not buy it! Although i think he is even worse than that and puts more emphasis on a single!

The main reason why music from the 60s, 70s, and to some extent, the 80s has lasted is because musicians were given time to produce and refine their music.

A band then would have spent time on the road supporting other bands and perfecting and refining their songs so when they came to producing their first album the songs had been perfected.

A good example is a 16 year old girl Dave Gilmore of Pink Floyd discovered. She was personally recommended to Pink Floyd's record company, EMI, by Dave Gilmore who suggested she was given the time she needed to produce her first album. Her name? Kate Bush. No musician today would be given that time, and that is the difference and the reason for the perceived lack of quality today.

There are plenty of good bands around today who produce some really good stuff, but whether they'll have the longevity of bands like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, or Led Zeppelin is highly debatable.

Ermm, no. However it is possible that the musical tastes of the GBP will become so stale, insular and parochial that they die of cultural malnutrition. A kind of musical anorexia if you like.
