I happened upon this link earlier, and it really brought home what an amazing year 2005 was for Doctor Who fans. The amazing success the series is currently enjoying is in stark contrast to how things used to be. Long-term fans have maybe forgotten just how low things got 20 years ago. This link may be of interest to anyone who was a fan in the mid-eighties, it could bring back a few memories.

Listen if you dare....

I couldn't bring myself to listen all the way through. Nice sentiment/gesture but truly awful. Michael Grade must have p****d himself laughing when he heard that.

RTD needs to have a disco scene with that as the music in an episode

Would anyone be dancing to it though? I think they would be too embarrassed!

You think that's bad. I bought the single. It was dreadful. Radio 1 banned it from the airwaves - not because of its intense political message (bring back Doctor Who) but because the production values were so awful.

For those who don't know the story behind this . . .

In 1984, during Colin Baker's first season as Doctor Who, Michael Grade (head of BBC 1 at the time) decided to 'rest' the show for 18 months as he thought it was getting very tired. There was, of course, a public outcry (no joke - it even made the front page of The Sun) and the cast, crew and various celeb supporters recorded this song as a protest.

Yeah, I think I bought it too!

Can anyone remember the 'celebrities' who took part in it? I can recall Faith Brown and some woman who used to be in Man About the House lending their Z-list support.

For anyone interested in Who related songs, this one dates back to the seventies, and its third Doctor Jon Pertwee strutting his stuff...

I dunno - the music video could consist of them walking up to Cybermen, Daleks and Slitheen and headbutting them. Captain Jack can do a solo bit.

You never know, it might make No.1, considering what Crazy Frog achieved.

I got about halfway through, but it was so bad that I'll have to listen to the rest of it tomorrow when no one else is in the room.
