Posting here and on the freeview thread to see if anyone can help. Have set upmy toppy and installed the biggest mother of an aerial I have ever seen (who says size doesn't matter...).

All channels looking good (getting about 3 of each channel! Not quite sure why but hey). All channels that is except BBC4 with has absolutely no signal strength on channel 9. If I flick through and go to channel 1001 it appears but it's mixed with cbeebies on channel 1002 (half audio and half picture!!)

Any ideas?

there shouldnt be anything at all in the 100's
are you getting any duplicate channels?
have you tried a manual channel scan?

using the info form that site, write down the UHF channel number for each multiplex, then do a factory re-set on the toppy ( you will lose any timer settings, but not anything recorded on the hard disk),
followed manual scan on your toppy selecting only the UHF channel number that coresponds with each multiplex.

Typed in my postcode and got a table showing craigkelly and blackhill my transmitters. My aerial is pointing towards blackhill and I'm getting 95% reception on my extra high gain aerial on average. Here's the aerial: http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?...No=906&doy=8m1

I don't understand the info on the table though and I don't understand what multiplex is/ are?? 'Write down the UHF channel for each multiplex'-Ummmmmmm!!

I'm getting up to 3 of every channel on my automatic scan (say two BBC 1 Scotlands and a BBC 1 etc. Manually deleting the worst 2 but it is a bit laborious.

The UHF numbers for Black Hill are 41, 44, 47, 51, 55, 65. You should now be able to follow Richard's instructions in his last paragraph.

Is it just BBC4 you have a problem with or all the channels on Multiplex B - that is BBC4, Cbeebies, Parliament and radio cannels Five Live, BBC6, BBC7, asian Network ??

The fact is that in the same way that the five old analogue channels were each broadcast on a certain UHF channel number the Freeview digital ones are broadcast on six more UHF channels. Unlike the analogue system there isn't just one channel per UHF broadcast channel, instead about 10-15 programme channels are mixed (multiplexed) into a single broadcast channel (aka "Mux"). The channels I listed above are all mixed together on the so-called "Multiplex B".

If you get one then you chould get them all. It's almost impossible to not get just one within a particular multiplex.

But one thing strikes me and this could be a MAJOR case of teaching granny to suck eggs but you do realise that BBC 4 only broadcasts in the evening from 7pm onwards?? - your message saying you weren't getting it above was posted at 18:34 - it wouldn't be broadcasting at that time. In fact the CBeebies and BBC4 share the same broadcasting "space". So they never broadcast together. Cbeebies stops at 18:59:59 and BBC4 starts at 19:00:00

Thanks very much for the explanation of multiplexes. I now realise that channels are bunched together on multiplexes 1,2,A,B,C & D. Using the Wolfbane site and the previous post the UHF channels associated with those multiplexes are 41,44,47,51,55 & 65. Am I right?

I've checked the list of channels you gave me (and the rest on multiplex B) and the results are all the same:

TV:

9 BBC4, 71 CBeebies, 85 BBC Parliament, 87 Community & 301,302,303 BBCi

Radio:

705 5Live, 706 5Live Sports Extra, 707 6Music, 707 BBC 7 & 708 BBC Asian Network

"No signal at tuner 1" except Channel 701: BBC 1Xtra

Bizarrely, I'm getting the mixed BBC4/ CBeebies Audio channel on 1001, CBeebies on 1002, 1xtra on 1003, 1004, 5 & 6 have BBCi and 1007 has Community on it!!

And for radio... 1000 is Radio 5Live, 1001 is 5Live sportsX, 1002 Radio6, 1003 Radio7 & 1004 Asian Network!

I assume that if I reset my box and manually enter the uhf channels I'll only get 1 of each channel and hopefully pick up multiplex B?

Well I went back to the Wolfbane result you gave and 41,44,47,51,55 & 65 are broadcast to you by Black Hill which is 28 miles from you and you only get a signal strength of 33 dBuV/m which is a pretty weak signal. But it suggests that if you aerial was pointed at Craigkelly, that is only 10 miles form you, then you'd get 54 dBuV/m which is much stronger.

Your aerial is currently pointed at a bearing of 261 degrees. If it was moved round to 348 degress then you'd receive 1,2,A,B,C,D on UHF channels 33,29,23,26,42 and 39 from Craigkelly and you should get a much stronger signal.

I reset the box and manually tuned the toppy to the uhf channels associated with Blackhill. Getting 70 to 80% signal. Picture quality is excellent and now only have 1 of each channel that I want.

Think I'll go through and delete all of the dross (shopping etc).

Cliff, cheers for the advice re craigkelly. I may spin the aerial this weekend to see if I can improve my signal strenth. Quite a few aerials on the roof and three would be in my way(ish).

Now I know what it is that I have to do i'll give it a shot..
