How To Update 8000t Software?
BeatJunkie
09-01-2006
Humax 8000t is on the way - purchased it last night from Hughes Electrical (80GB version for £120.99 including delivery can't be bad can it!?)

Anyway, chances are I will need to update the software. I've no idea how this is done. Can someone let me know how to do it? Is there any special equipment I need to update it or do they send updates over-the-air like on my LOGIK Freeview Box?

Thanks very much.

It's very likely that the 8000 will come with the lastest software on-board. The last major change was months ago, so I'd be suprised if you don't get in on your unit.

Humax do fairly regular over air updates but if you can't wait and you're on a old version you can email Humax support via their website. They will send you one of the two cables you'll need and details of where to buy the other one.

You can then download the software to your unit by following the instructions they will supply. I did it myself about a year ago, it's relatively easy.

The last 8000 update was over a year ago, before Christmas 2004.

That may have been the last time they changed the software, but there have been updates since, but they could have been replays.

There have been a few re-transmissions of the latest 8000T software since October when I bought an 8000T80 to go with my 8000T40. I dare say there will be a few more re-transmissions to come although the retransmission rate has been reduced significantly due to the 9200 being the main concern from Humax.

Just got a 8000T 40 for £40 from Currys as no remote. Now have remote from Humax but how does the updating work? Do I need to leave the box on overnight or something or do I need to update manually?

I doubt that there will be a repeat OTA update for the 8000T anytime soon. You will need to do the update using your PC, a null-modem (crossover) serial lead and a little serial adaptor lead you you need to get from Humax. Have a look over on their web site for details.

Your software is out of date. My box has software dated 2 April 2005.

To update the software, press Menu button, then select Installation, then Software Update, then Automatic Update.

That will be the re-release where only the version number changed, as some boxes had a problems when it was first released earlier. The change of version number was needed to kick-start the automatic update process into action.
