Recording Radio 2, at 10am on a Saturday?

Here's a strange one. Over Christmas I tried to record the two Ricky Gervais Radio 2 specials (both on Saturdays at 10am) on my 9200.

The problem was that it didn't save the recordings.

I've not had any other problems (recording TV or Radio) and I did remember to switch to the audio menu when looking for the recording.

During the second Ricky Gervais show, I actually switched on and listened to it live and the machine WAS recording! It just decided not to save it

This Saturday, I thought I'd test it again by recording the Mark Lamarr show, which was on also on at 10am on Radio 2. I suspected it might be something to do with the Ricky Gervais shows being longer than three hours, so I set it to record each hour as a separate recording. The result was that it recorded the last two hours, but not the first!

Any ideas? Did anyone else record the Ricky Gervais?

Are there certain times of the day that the 9200 doesn't like recording?

Brett,
It might be something to do with the 'recording radio from standby' bug, although from your post its not clear if this is really linked or not.

With this issue if you select a radio programe to record from the EPG and at the appropriate time the box is in standby, the recording will not show up in the playlist; even though on the front display of the box it appears to 'wake-up in standby' and start to record - with the little 'rec' words appear on the display.

If this has nothing to do with being in standby at any time, does this happen at any other time other than Saturday 10am on Radio2?

I didn't know there was such a bug. The machine was definitely on standby. I suppose that would also explain why the second two hours of Mark Lamarr were recorded OK, as the machine was already on when it was set to record those.

Sorry if this is a known problem. This is the first trouble I've had with the 9200 (I've had it for about a month). I updated the firmware just after I got it.

To tell the truth, I half wish I hadn't seen this forum; the stories of lost recordings are a bit unsettling

Overall, the 9200 is a fantastic machine. The only slight niggle I'd have is the slow download speed over the so-called USB 2.0 connection. I only get about 1MB a second.

I've never had the problem with any other recording (Radio or TV) but I think it fits the description of the bug you mentioned.

I suppose I'll wait until a new firmware release appears. And in the meantime, leave it switched on, if I'm going to record from Radio.

Thanks again,
Brett.
