How are the Miller's living ? A while back there was a big storyline about them struggling to survive, Keith got found out for being a fraud and ordered to pay back the money. So now, months later, no work apart from the cleaning at the vic. How are they living ? Does Keith get benefits again even though he was found to be a fraud ?

EE has been very unrealistic about these money issues. in recent times.

Take for instance the Mitchells. They were penniless after crooked lawyer Marcus wiped them clean of their wealth and suddenly they return and buy back the Vic with no explanation of where the money came from.

Or everytime someone sells their business and say they will sell for a fair price they never actually get paid.

Same with the Millers. The benefit thing has stopped for Keith and suddenly after Mike and Dawn were added they got no problems

There is the stall but I can't imagine it making enough money for them to pay the bills and for them to live on.

Phil told Darren that Rosie only gets paid £4.50 an hour for cleaning at 'The Vic', isn't that lower than the minimum wage?

Grant gave Peggy the money to buy back 'The Vic'. This was mentioned in an episode.

Also how can Phil afford to be paying out so much money to juley?
If peggy was skint when she came back to Walford how could she afford to give so much towards Dawns op?

Oh yeah because Grant would just let her go back to Walford with no money wouldn't he?

its amazing how mickey has been away on holiday so long when the millars can barley afford to pay the rent!
thinking about it they do bring in a bit more now-Rosie cleans the Vic every day, Darren is doing work for Ian, Dawn has her job in the pub (on a side note how much staff do they need! theyve got Phil, Peggy, Dawn, Honey, Little Mo and Tracy in there!). Mickey is running the stall and I'd imagine it does bring in some good money. Then theres layabout keith who brings in nothing, Demi has an excuse to do nothing-she has a baby. Keith needs to be giving a right good kicking up the arse!

Demi should be on benefits as well, I know that she gets free milk tokens for Aleesha but she should be on income support to help her care for the baby.

Either her or rosie will get child tax credits for the baby.. Demi isnt 16 yet so im not sure if you can claim IS or CTC at her age. im guessing if rosie works more than 16 hours a week she gets working tax credits too, saying that rental on a house in london is gonna be well above what houseing benifit pays so im still baffled how they afford to live..

Well for the people that rent houses in Albert Square the rent must be extortionate, it's always been one of the unrealistic factors about the show but it's something that you can ignore because it's just a soap.

Anyways yes I was thinking that Demi should get some sort of child benefit for Aleesha, but I don't know what she'd be able to claim at her age but I'm sure she can get something because Debbie in Emmerdale was getting some kind of child benefit for her baby.

If you say so, but I don't remember that. I do remember Grant saying, though, that he was just scraping by. Supposing the Vic would set Phil back about half a million then I wouldn't mind scraping by for a bit.

So you don't remember when Johnny and Peggy were feuding over the Vic and Peggy offered to top Johnny's bid and give him a cut of the deal if he didn't tell Chrissie? Peggy said that Grant would have the money in a couple of weeks so that to me means that Grant can get that sort of money. I thought it was all pretty logical, obviously some people just aren't paying enough attention.

Arent the rented houses on the square council houses? I am sure I have heard the council mentioned in the past... Rosie is working two part time jobs, albeit for minimum wage, if even that, but that means she will be working enough hours to claim working tax credits, and will get child tax credits for Demi, Darren and Aleisha. They will get child benefit for the three kids too. Dawn earns enough to contribute or to fend for herself. They will get by, but wont be overly well off, and as for paying back the disability benefits, wont that just come out of their benefits at a small amount per week, as they are living on the bread line?

And as for the mitchells, didnt they say they would get onto the lawyer and bank in the morning, after Sharon and Dennis offered them the Vic? Maybe they got a business mortgage??

Point taken. And you can slap my wrist for that.

So, did Grant pay or did they get a mortgage? Don't tell me - Grant paid half and they got a mortgage for the rest.

Did any of the money go to its rightful owner, i.e. Chrissie? If so then she could get out on bail.

Obviously there are some inconsistencies in EastEnders especially financially and some of them I can't come up with an excuse for.

I'm not trying to drive the point any further but I thought you might want to look at this page just to refresh your memory if you have genuinely forgotten parts of the storyline: http://www.bbc.co.uk/eastenders/east...20051010.shtml

You're right. There's no point in arguing the toss about it.
.....But, having looked at the link I noted that Peggy offered Johnny 20 percent of his bid (to be paid by Grant to Johnny) and that she was investigating other avenues to pay for the Vic. So Grant didn't actually pay for the Vic then, and if he did it was only 20 percent?

Whatever. Best not to think about it really.

Oh do you know what I think you're right, I've given up anyways, there's tons of inconsistencies in EastEnders not just financially, you have the character inconsistencies as well which are ten times WORSE in my opinion.
I'd rather have a financial inconsistency than yet another character transplant anyday, I think we're just going to have to face the fact that EastEnders doesn't pay as much attention to detail now as it did in the old days.

Hang on, I thought Sharon owned it (being Den's daughter)?

Ok thank Pansiks, why have none of them confronted him about what happened though?

Any how is Mickey affording the snowboarding? I know they had to give a reason for him not being there/ around but why has Mike not asked where his son is and when is he getting back? and hadnt he supposed to have been with Clint who reappeared smoking last night????
