Humax 9200T gone faulty, no longer works

Humax 9200T gone faulty, no longer works.
I have emailed this to Humax

I went in to the room at 20:58 on 10th Jan to find E-AC on the Humax display, the clock icon was on and also the hardrive was spinning. The night before I had left it on standby on a BBC channel and their were scheduled recordings made for 10th January for 8pm?, 9pm? I can not remember what they were, but I no for sure I had scheduled it to record 10pm to 11:05 on CH4, all schedules were done from the EPG, non had the start / end times changed, the CH4 recording had been set to weekly record.
The only thing that was unusual for the way I had used the machine that day, was I had not used it = it had been left in standby all the time.

The only thing the box will respond to is the standby button on the Humax box itself and then the display said Go OTA then it said E-HW. I pressed the standby button again and it said E-AC again, every time you press the standby button it keep going round this sequence = Go OTA then E-HW, E-AC, Go OTA then E-HW. I switched the TV to the Humax scart input, When its on the E-HW sequence you get to 0%, when its on the E-AC sequence you get to 100% first (on screen) = the L00,L10, L20 etc..
I have tried pressing the standby button for several seconds to try to reset it and other buttons. I have tried switching the power off at the back of the machine for over 10 minutes and taking the mains plug out the main socket for over 10 mins, nothing helps.
On the TV it ays error code E-HW or E-AC depending on were you are on the sequence

I have had the Humax since 15 November, it’s software version is PGXTF10000 and MICOM 2.03
Before that I had a Humax with MICOM 2.02 and had non of the faults above or below = I exchanged the box due to Hang-Ups, I had it for over 1 month

The other faults I have had with the latest Humax 9200T are as follows

My Humax PVR9200 has just failed to record 3 programs in a row.

I have the original software = PGXTF10000 and MICOM v2.03.

This is exactly what happened.
Wednesday 4th January, used the machine as usual = only watch BBC channels live and record all others just in case of lockup / hang-up. I scheduled several days of recording as per usual. Thursday 5th Januarys schedule was all set by the EPG (as usual) and some where edited (as usual).

17:59 to 19:00 Sky 3 (This is edited to record 1 minute early)
20:00 to 21:00 Sky 3 (This is edited to record this every week)
21:00 to 22:00 BBC2
21:00 to 22:00 ITV1

When I switched the Humax on from standby at 21:01 on Thursday 4th January(first time that day), the box started up like nothing was recording = the hardrive spun up and L00, L10 etc. happened as per usual for no recording taking place.
The TV channel that then appeared was BBC1 = that was what I left it on the night before.
I immediately looked at the record schedule and the 2 scheduled recordings for 21:00 were still in their. I then while watching BBC1 live and pressed the play button, it said their were no recordings taking place, I listened to the hardrive and could tell only the live buffer was being recorded. I then pressed the menu button and nothing was greyed out like when things are being recorded. I then looked at the record list, only the 17:59 to 19:00 recording was their(no 20:00 to 21:00). I then waited until 22:01 and nothing had changed except the two 21:00 recordings were no longer in the record schedule, the weekly program had updated itself to next week’s program.

I then deleted everything else in the record schedule and used the reset everything back to manufacturers defaults option in the menu.

The recordings I scheduled for Thursday were what I normally did, 3 of them have been done for at least 5 Thursdays and never any trouble.
The only thing that I did differently the day of the failed recordings, was to leave the box in standby. I usually switched the box on while the 17:59 recording is actually taking place and switch back in to standby at the end of an evenings viewing = after anything scheduled to record has finished. I also all ways switch the box in to standby on a BBC channel since I never watch any other channels since it might lock / hang-up the box(that’s what happened to my first Humax 9200T micom 2.02).

I have only had a lost recording once before and that was on ITV4(I did email you about it = copy below), other people on the digitalspy thread had this problem but only with ITV4 programs and often could repeat the problem week after week.

My transmitter is Waltham and I have no signal problems ever or at the time.

ITV4 failed recording

Humax PVR9200T

Time Cop on ITV4 at 8pm on Saturday failed to record for the first time.
I have been recording it every week, a week or so ago I edited the record schedule to record it every week. This is the only program I record on ITV4. Nothing else was recording at the time.

I am on the Waltham transmitter.
Software version = PGXTF10000
MICOM version is the latest = 2.03

Damn bad luck spoon. your just not having any luck with yours man soz.

So what you doing?..replacement or money back if poss?

ps...seems to me like they've released this new box in a hurry ...maybe members will disagree but in playback / recording mode most other functions are DRASTICALLY reduced.. like picture in picture, epg , list etc.Im sure the box has the hardware to do these things so if they wer'nt in a hurry then it dont make sense to me unless these things cant be done and if thats the case then we're all stumped lol ..

Good luck with yours spoon ok

Don't no what I am doing at the moment, will have to see what my dealer + humax say. I have about 30 recordings on the Humax, mostly christmas stuff and I bet I have lost them. I think I will have a read of the Topfield forum and see how they are doing.

Apart from other faults,I am amazed that Humax releases the 9200 knowing that it cuts out sound, and picture,on both the TV,and any other connected equipment, while it initialises.

Update, I phoned the humax helpline, who told me to switch it off at the back and take the mains plug out of the wall for over 15 minutes, which I had already done, they said the hardrive had failed and needed to be returned.

Before this fault the Humax had never been connected to a PC, today I updated the software from 10000 to 10001, which updated ok but still fault, I then returned it to 10000. I then removed the Humax from the room and plugged its mains plug in to a spare socket = nothing else was connected like aerial / scart etc.. Still faulty.

I have returned it to my dealer = Comet who gave me a full refund.

The reason for refund was that they had no stock and no other branch within 50 miles had ether and their system claimed they could not even order one due too supplier not giving any delivery dates.

I know this might sound strange but that might be a blessing in disguise i.e. you've now got the choice of whether to get another Humax or something else; Fusion200, Inverto, you mention the Topfield

The topfield looks like the main competition for the Humax.
But whats concerning me is that Hughes Direct have stopped selling the topfield, or atleast it has disapeared from their website. I have a branch of Hughes (same company) in my local city and might have purchased one from them. Hughes do not take products off their website when they are out of stock (comet do). Hughes sell the Humax = has the humax damaged the sales of topfield?

The inverto is only available mail order (you can buy it from boots but only from their mail order section). The inverto has a massive lack of supply going back to last spring = their are not meny people with them compared to other makes.

I keep reading posts about how bad the panasonic is.

I don't think the fusion has a digital audio output which I need + I bet the fan is still incredibly noisy even when in standby and not recording.

My personal experiance has told me that PVRs are trouble = I had to return my Thomson PVR Freeview due to the widescreen bug in the software = could not watch ITV2,3,4, E4 & men and motors (thomson has never fixed this fault in the software). The thomson also crashed a few times just before I returned it. But I had no problems getting a refund since I purchased the Thomson from a Currys store. As I have found, the comet store I bought the Humax from have refunded my money as well. Both the thomson and humax were over 1 month old so the shops could have caused trouble, but they were fine. I personaly would not dare deal mail order with a PVR. If it was anything other than a PVR, I would buy mail order if its cheaper or only available mail order.

Many people have had no problems with the Humax, some have.
Many people have had no problems with the Topfield, some have.
Many people have had no problems with the Pace Twin, some have. (Well OK quite a few!)

Many people have the Sony or Panasonic HDD/DVD recorder and most have had no faults or problems.

Morel: Twin tuner PVRs seem to be unstable, Single tuners seem to be stable (if on a DVD recorder anyway!)

I did say above it had to be a quality make such as Sony or Panasonic! Philips have always had problems with their DVD recorders...... I am always amazed that anyone still buys them!...... Then again most of us have a Windows PC.... Doh!
