Once again, another shambolic EE church gathering.

WHY wouldn't Vikki come to the funeral to

a) say goodbye to her bro
b) to support Sharon in her hour of need
c) to represent the rest of her awol family in America

it's total pants - Vikki hasn't even phoned.
And your telling me a young lad like Dennis has no other mates of his age - surely he has some, from his days of running Angie's Den to the bookies - nobody but a small handfull of cast & the usual few market trader extras turn out.

Will Vikki return for her Gran's wedding.....I wouldn't bet on it!

Did she ring? I commented on this to my mate when we were watching it - particularly considering that they were on their way to see her and Michelle for new year

There's nothing they can do if the actor or actress doesn't want to return. There's been loads of times Michelle (probably the best example) should have come back but Susan Tully doesn't want to. They can't exactly keep recasting established roles like that can they?

I always say it's best to focus on the characters now and stop thinking about them that have left afterall their families/relatives and friends manage it 99% of the time

The funeral service was terrible; in my view Joe should have left the arrangements to Dot! Where was the organist? Singing unaccompanied at a funeral would be nigh on impossible. Maybe Dennis was of no particular faith, but would you have been happy with the service for a relative of yours?

Its not real!

Vicki was not there because the actress couldnt/wouldnt come back for the funeral!

so ee kept it quiet so half the viewers wouldnt even think about her!

Soaps are good but when it comes to reality they just cant cut it obviously!

Soaps may not be real; but they should be realistic.

It disrupts the flow of the storyworld if the characters don't do things that people usually would, even if they're in 'america' etc.

I agree, and yes it is a soap, and its not real, but the whole point is that it is supposed to be real life. The fact of the matter is; no matter where in the world you are, if a close member of your family dies, you try your hardest to get to the funeral!

exactly! Eastenders should make more of an effort, even if they recast the character, or kind of explain that they phoned, did a flying visit, anything!

Why did the funeral end with the removal of the Allens. Why no speech at the end. Why did they not show any more of the funeral?. Shambles...total crap

Why was there no organist? Why did no one make a speech or oratory bout Dennis? Was there a vicar? and why did they start singing again in the same spot after "the Allens" were thrown out by Phil - poor show all round, no wonder Dot was worried about it!

I think they sang unaccompanied to emphasise when they all stopped singing to see johnny be thrown out. it adds dramatic tension that might be lost underneath blaring organ music

A lame reason; the funeral was terrible! If there was a disturbance, the organist probably would have stopped playing anyway, it was only a small church.

I think that the whole funeral was odd.

No matter what religious beliefs Dennis had, cannot escape the fact that his send-off was a mess.

I appreciate that funerals aren't meant to be happy occasions, but it looked completely miserable.

The service was dire - why weren't there any speeches about Dennis.

Why was there a blacked out limousine and no hearse?

It just seemed a rather strange way to say goodbye to a popular character.

Makes you wonder what it would have been like if Dot had been left to plan it!

On the positive side, I think Sharon played the grieving widow very convincingly!

I thought it was really weird having no organist or anything.

The situation with Vicki was a bit weird - ok, they can't force the actress to come back, but they usually at least have a phone call. They can't pretend she hadn't been told, because Sharon and Dennis were on their way to visit! Vicki worshipped Dennis and there's no way she wouldn't have been at his funeral in real life.

You Know it's all her fault in the first place that Dennis and Den are dead. If she had not wanted to play Happy families by tracking Den down and Dennis then they would have been still alive.

True, perhaps EE should follow this storyline and have Sharon accuse Vicky.

True! Suppose it depends whether it was better for Dennis to have found happiness in the short term and then died or to have lived unhappy for years.

Yes but for that to work, Vicky would have to be there - which rather brings us back full circle

I don't know, EE could do their usual trick of it all happening in the States, and then have Sharon telling Pauline about what happened!
