Run.bin file for 1.7.7 software
DavidLewis
11-01-2006
Having failed to update my DHD4000 over-the-air to software version 1.7.7 since buying it on December 30th (see my post here), I'd now like to try other means. Does anyone have a copy of the v1.7.7 run.bin file from the hard disk that I can try popping onto mine please?

Aha....if this is possible I'd be very interested. I also have a 0.31 version that isn't updating from the Hannington Transmitter and hasn't since mid-December....

Hello, can you let me know if these worked please? I'm getting a DHD4000 on Monday (hopefully!) from QED - can I have the code as well?

Thank-you

Once you have the bin file how do you update your Thomson? Thanks

With Syphon. see the data extraction threads both here and in the Fusion forum - most traffic about replacing run.bin's in the Fusion forum in fact

Hope this is on topic enough...

I've just received my new (and it does look and smell brand new!) DHD4000 at work - but I'm not going to be able to try it out for a couple of days

In the manual there is a yellow insert entitled 'Update' which lists all the features added in 1.7.7. Has anyone else had one of these with a new unit? If so, did yours come with the updated software?

Thank-you

Howard

(PS: The run.bin file would still be nice if anyone could be so kind...)

I also had the yellow insert with mine (new in early December 2005), and yes, on mine the 1.7.7 software was already loaded.

Howard,

If you've got the yellow insert you will have 1.7.7 software as I had.....unfortunately mine was replaced due to numerous problems and the replacement only has 0.31

David - did you PM as suggested by Providence? I don't want to duplicate requests if you've got a dialogue on the go already

Yep. I'm currently having some Syphon difficulties, but I'll report back in this thread when I can say something useful!

If you have the yellow leaflet then you probably have 1.7.7 on the box. If it isn't currently running then you may need to do a 'Revert Software' from the technical help setup screen and power the box off/on afterwards. Some of them shipped with 1.7.7 as the 'backup' software version and need to be 'reverted' to activate it.

David,

Did you get 1.7.7 from my suggested source?

If so, I wouldn't mind having it to try on my spare Digifusion disc. There's a rumour going round that the hardware architecture is common to both the Thomson and the Digifusion and I'd like to check that.

If you have, I can PM my email address.

Thanks

Yes, I have received a run.bin file thanks. I don't yet know what version of software it contains, or whether I can update my box with it; I've been having some Syphon troubles. These may now be fixed, but I haven't time to pull the HD out to try this evening. Maybe tomorrow.

Be assured that I will post details here as soon as I have a result...

With fantastic support from Karl (author of Syphon), I eventually managed to copy a run.bin file to my Thomson hard drive. Unfortunately upon re-assembing the box, I can see no sign of firmware 1.7.7. (I tried "revert software" on the technical info screen, power off/ on etc. to no effect). So either:

Syphon isn't quite doing what I had hoped it would do, or
Updating the software on a Thomson involves more than just copying a new run.bin file to the HD, or
The file I used isn't in fact 1.7.7, or
Something else I haven't thought of.
It would be helpful if anybody who has extracted a run.bin file from their 1.7.7 Thomson could PM me. Also, if anyone has any suggestions what I could try next, they'd be gratefully received!

Hi Im struggling with my thomson. Its been dead for ages so I put it to bed for a while.Meanwhile I got Skyplus, and a liteon dvd hd recorder. My question if I format my hd again and load another bin file using Syphon do you think i could resurrect my machine. If so could someone tell me where to get one? Thanks

Whether you can fix it by replacing the disk depends on what's wrong with it. What are the symptoms of it being 'dead'?

its the famous yld.
Ive tried all the forum suggestions many times. In the end I gave up bought a liteon hd dvd recorder and sky plus....however I refuse to be beaten.lol So out it comes again.Ive tried different hd's fdisked the original, wiped it with noughts you name it,ive been nothing if not thorough. One thing that might be coincidental is that it worked until I moved house?? No it wasnt damaged in transit...it came with me in my car. I seem to think that all the suggestions work providing its got the software in place. But I think this is corrupt in mine so unless I can find some way of reprogramming the thing its just going to sit there glowing in yellow!Hence I thought about the Syphon idea with a run.bin file.
Any suggestions?

That can mean that the hard disk is toast too. Or the power supply is knackered. The software is flashed but if it'll start up without the aerial attached and you can get into the settings then you could try reverting the software, power off/on then revert again, power off/on. This will flash it back to the old version then forward to the new again and if the flashed image is corrupted this may sort it out. Or it may not.

yes I must admit I have doubts about the power supply because the fan isnt working.I am an ex telly engineer....if only I could get the manual for this thing...I will do a few basic checks around anyway.
I have tried other hard drives mind but nothing. Its funny the Sky plus box fills up too fast.I was transferring the stuff to my Liteon HD for archiving ...now thats playing up.The thing keeps flicking to different menus when it feels like it.In the middle of any process!!!!and now the HD doesnt always record properly.Lost about 30 hrs worth of stuff.Formula 1 stuff thats no chance of being repeated.VERY ANNOYING!
Why do they release this stuff when its obviously not right.I design guitar amps for a living and if I released an amp in this state I wouldnt last two minutes.
There must be some redundant pvr designers forming a club these days reminiscing about when they had a job...Lol
