Deadly serious? I take it you haven't ever seen SG1 or Atlantis?

Enjoying both of them a lot at the moment, but both have at least as much humour as Doctor Who.

Yeah, 9pm is 'primetime' in the US so it really couldn't get a better slot.

Well, since the programme is going to be aired after the watershed they can hardly complain that it corrupts young children. Anyway, I think it was done subtly enough. It's not as if Jack had Rose and the Doctor over the tardis console, is it?

What amazes me is how much more everything needs to be signposted for the US market as opposed to the UK one. They'll probably not even get the subtleties of the Cap'n being bisexual until he kisses both Rose and the Doctor in the final story.

They will most probably just think that the British are eccentric as they always do and slightly queer..not in that sense of the word.

It's strange, but in US comedies it's quite common to portray gay men as either British or Canadian.
