How to bring back the Eighth Doctor

There has been a fair number of comments here bemoaning the fact that we saw so little of Paul McGann's portrayal of the Doctor. It seems very unlikely that he would ever appear alongside the current Doctor but he could still appear on TV again by turning up from time to time to help Captain Jack in Torchwood!

I suppose this is still pretty unlikely but it would be an easy way to get him involved in the world of Doctor Who again without stepping on the toes of the current Doctor.

As much as I like your idea I think PM deserves a proper outing as the 8th Doctor to at least explain the regeneration into CE.

this idea is great, it would help connect the two and Captain Jack woudent remember the Doctor because of the two years he missed, the only thing i can think of to stop it is, if this did happen then why didnt the Doctor say something about it to Captain jack

Thats the beauty of time lords... you can slip them into any storyline in any time period.

Indeed either could even take over the main Doctor Who programme again.

Cue contrived "billie gets left behind and bumps into a previous doctor who also visted the same timeline" episode.

Erm, no.

I think Stuart's idea has great potential but the current series of DW has always dealt with the current Doctor's travels in time and space.

So - nil points!

I'm going to maintain nice thoughts about Chris Eccles when I go to bed - okay?

Fantastic! Have a good sleep, have a fantastic sleep!

Please don't reply saying: And with that sentence, you just lost the right to even speak to me.

It's a shame the little dog in Coronation Street is called "Eccles"! It just doesn't seem to fit, somehow!

Funny, I swear we've had two doctors in this new Doctor Who...

Anything is possible

Actually I think your missing the truth of the situation. This is a "new" Doctor Who, they even sell the box sets as being the "complete season one".

All through the new Doctor Who the emphasis has been on ms Piper and experiencing events from her perspective.

If David Tennent decided to call it a day after a season or two and Ecclestone wanted to come back the beeb would be happy to keep the series going without having to use up another of the Doctors 'lives'.

They know they will have a battle when they reach what should be the Doctors last regeneration they have to come up with a 'plausable' (to the hard core fans) reason why the Doctor can carry on regenerating

I don't know why everybody is so hung up about this - it's been done before with the Master.

Most of the Doctors have met their previous reincarnations so I guess it's not such a crazy idea.

I think the crucial fact is that unlike, say, Hilda Ogden returning to Corrie or any other well-loved character returning to a series that they departed some time back, it's not a crowd-puller. It isn't something you can build in the papers/media. As McGann was a 90 minuter. Sad fact but true.

It could only serve as part of a narrative and that would involve getting Ecclesgone back into the part with McGann.

And which type of viewer is so interested in seeing the joins? I mean, Troughton turned into Pertwee "off-screen" in SfS but there's never been an interest to see the process in full.

And we have a winner!
