Stupid setup question
Greetings all wise people!
Just got myself a yelo 800 DVD player and have hooked it up to my Kenwood Digi. Amp using an optical feed. So that part I can cope with, However, I was thinking about using the DVD sound outputs of the player and connecting it to the Amp's sound inputs (you know - separate leads for centre, surround and L&R speakers.) My questions are: 1 - Will I get better separation of sound and improved quality over the Optical lead 2 - What bloody leads would I use to do the connections - would they be the same as the lead I have used to connect my Sub Woofer (note lack of tech speak!) Would appreciate some guidance folks

I don't know the Yelo DVD player in question but I'm assuming it has an on-board DD/DTS decoder with six outputs. I would guess that the decoder in the Kenwood amp would be better than that of the one in the Yelo DVD player - so you would probably be best as you are - with the amp doing the decoding.
If you were to connect it using the six channel outputs on the DVD it would be just using phono leads. |

I would use the optical output direct to the amp, far less oportunity for interferance and probably garanteed to have a better amp than the on board one inside the DVD player.
Besides that you will find that you can get a good quality optical lead for £20 and for good phono leads it will be a load more than that. There are loads of points I could make for Optical ( or Coaxial for that matter) connection but I wont bore ya, my advise is use the digital connection............ BUT ( just to confuse issue) if you have SACD capability you may need to connect via the 6 ouputs on the DVD player to get the multi channel ![]() If however you were gonna connect em like that, Standard Phono leads ( basically the same as thr sub leads as you said) will do the job.
