We are interested in the Sony KDLS26A12U TV, but specifically want a black one, not silver. Our Comet store as a black model at £1,399. On searching the Web for anything cheaper, I noted that several companies are selling the same model for £900 or less. BUT, these models are all in Silver. Surely a £400 price difference isn't warranted just because of the colour? Anyone know what the reason might be?

If you ask the internet distributors for a black one you may get one.. depends on the distributor (many of them don't hold stock and just ship direct).

Currys sell stuff at 50% markup because they can, and not everyone is savvy enough to find out the real cost.

Tread very carefully....

There is a 'Black' Sony Bravia model, however you mentioned you are interested in the 'S' range model 26". This can be deduced in the Model number KDLS26A12U, where the Highlighted S tells you which range the set is from in the Bravia range. the S range is the standard base model range, although in terms quality it surpasses 99% of the competition hands down

The Black model you talk about is the next model up in the Bravia range, hence the price jump. This is indicated by a 'V' in the model number KDLV26A12U.

The Black V range does have a slightly better picture quality, although only very subtle, better sound processors and some say a better screen response rate over the S range

So to summarize, the Base S range only comes in Silver, and the mid range V series only comes in Silver

Personally I'm going for the Silver S range, I can't justify the £300 price difference between the 32" model I'm looking at for V range it just doesn't seem worth it so it's the S for me, even though the black V does look sexier

A very concise explaination, a novice like me would never have known the pro's and con's of these models. Many thanks for helping us make the final decision.
