5.1 or DTS?
This may be a stupid question, but with many DVD's having both DTS AND 5.1 audio, which one is meant to be the best, or is it down to just personal taste ?
Thanks. |

I think you mean Dolby Digital (DD) and DTS (Digital Theatre System) both of which are 5.1 in thier most basic form. DTS is the higher quality system which is a lot less compressed than DD and offers better dynamics and detail, there is nothing wrong with DD but once you compare the two on a good system you will find yourself trying to source your dvd's with a DTS soundtrack more often as the difference in quality can be quite different.

I have found that DTS is better, it has better seperation, better Bass, higher bitrate and overall sounds better.
You may hear a lot of arguements regarding its just the Db level has just been pushed up and that is why it sounds better, but opinions do vary ![]() Good disc's to compare DTS to DD are the Rock Criterion ED R1 ( I beleive the new R2 Deluxe is the same), Saving Private Ryan R1 ( wow), Twister R1 and The Fast and The Furious ( cack film but WOW that is one serious Soundtrack). There is always a few that dont sound any differant but overall DTS is better, and I would never buy an amp without DTS capability. Dont expect to see all titles with DTS though especially in the UK ![]() HTH Laters Spooks
