HI..quick toppy question

I am thinking of finally ditching my pace twin and going for a toppy. Can you guys tell me if you can record a programme in full even if the programme has already started? I.E capture the beginning of the recording.

Thanks

Yes, provided the programme is in the timeshift buffer. If you change channels you lose the timeshift buffer, so it only works if you have been watching the programme from the start.

Thanks for the reply. So you are saying that if I am watching a programme and i then think S**T this is good, I wanna record this, I can the record the WHOLE thing from start by pressing record?? Just like sky+

Well, not quite by pressing Record - instant record goes from the current place.

But you can hit rewind, and then record to save from the current position in the buffer.

Or you can go via the Menu key, and choose to record the current event, which will work out where to start from.

Or you can add a TAP that do that for you when you press Record.

But essentially, yes, you can record whatever's in the buffer.

Something I don't quite understand about this. If I rewind then hit record I am recording the timeshift buffer. So if I then change channel wont that wipe out the timeshift buffer and I'll lose the recording?

I'm thinkig of the situation where I start watching a programme then decide that my wife might like this as well so I'd like to record it so that we can watch it together later. But then I don't want to carry on watching it and would rather watch something else.

Cheers,

Andy

Once you've started a recording, the timeshift buffer is safe. Switch to another channel and the recording will be fine, and you'll get a timeshift buffer created on the new channel (unless you have two recordings running; you can't timeshift then).

Thanks Nigel. Clearly theToppy is smarter than I gave it credit for.

Cheers,

When you start a recording this way, does the Toppy just convert / rename the current live buffer file?

I presume that's more or less what it's doing - giving it a proper filename so it's visible, and then setting an end time.

The Humaxs 9200T will do exactly the same as the Toppy in respect of recording the timeshift buffer.
