As some of you may know Aaliyah a well known singer and actress (who starred in Romeo Must Die) died in a plane crash on August 25, 2001 at 6:45pm at the age of 22 and at the peak of her career.

Today the 16th of January is her birthday and today she would be 27.

Remember "Baby Girl" is with us, all of her friends are with us.

Wasn't Romeo Must Die on last night, maybe a fitting tribute to her

R.I.P Aaliyah Listening to at your best. She died way too young and in a terrible way. If I could revive any celebrities apart from Michael Jackson and Steve Irwin, I would revive her. By now she would be still succesful and like Beyonce and Alicia Keys. She's starting to trend on twitter worldwide which is good.

R.I.P Aaliyah

Im quite surprised and annoyed that no music channels are showing any Aaliyah related programming today. The only one I've spotted is MTV Base at 8pm but all that is is "Top 10: Aaliyah" I even had a look at the American MTV channels and nothing.

Aaliyah was amazing. Can only sit and wonder what kind of music she'd be bringing out today

I'm playing "One In A Million" (the album) now It's a great album and what R&B should be like... instead of this awful toss which is around today.

My two favourite acts from the 90s were TLC and Aaliyah... my friends came to know the wall in my bedroom, which had photos of them on, as "the wall of death"

I absolutely loved Aaliyah. RnB music has never quite sounded the same to me after her death.

My friends younger brother mentioned it today and his nan said why should you care if you didn't know her at the time (because he was about 4 at the time of her death)and said she probably only became famous after her death when she doesn't even know anythin about aaliyah! I could kill his nan!!

Such a tragic story. Really wish she were with us now

I read that there was a biopic movie on her life in the works..that was ages ago though.

So sad watching Rock The Boat now knowing that that was exactly now 9 years ago, seeing her walk across the beach unaware that she was about 4 hours away from death and was still alive right now 9 years ago Glad she was succesful before at least and did gain a lot that most singers only gain in a lifetime of a career. She sold about 24-32 copies after only 3 albums! Just like Buddy Holly, she would have by now, been one of the best-selling artists ever!

Never really heard much of Aaliyah's music but i remember when she died and what a horrible way she did die. She would deffinatley be more of an iconic r&b female today then she already is.

I could of imagined her writing for other artists, producing and collaborating. I could imagine her collaborating with Alicia Keys, Beyonce or Keyshia Cole.

Still so sad. Its horrible thinking about all the amazing music she might have produced. Guess we'll never know though.

On a lighter note, how old is this thread?

So so sad Aaliyah was amazing, she had her own style and she would have been at the top right now if she were still here More Than a Woman and Try Again are two of my most favourite songs.

She would have been so good in Honey as well, she was an amazing actress and singer. RIP.

I had her albums from the start, Age Ain't Nuthin' But A Number in particular was great.

Couldn't quite believe it when she died, so soon after really hitting the mainstream.

Obscure but great track alert: Got To Give It Up
