Sony RDR HXD-710

Iam considering purchasing a Sony Sony RDR HXD-710 but have a couple of questions:
First some info on my current equipment
1. Sony digital TV
2.Sony DAVS 400 home cinema
3. Sony VCR

All the above are quite good.

Question: how many tuners does the 710 have?
If I want to record one channel and watch another digital channel is this possible?
How will the 710 work with the Home cinema unit?
Is it possible to transfer VCR tapes to DVD with this unit?

I am relatively untechnical so please keep any response easy to follow.
Thanks

I can help with 2 of them:

- it only has one tuner so you cant watch one channel and record another

- you can copy from your VCR to the HDD or DVD

Hi,

The RDR-HXD710 has 2 digital audio outputs (1 optical and 1 coaxial ("normal" RCA phono connector)) so as long as your home cinema setup has one of these digital inputs then all will be fine.
If not then there are also standard analogue audio left and right outputs which may help.

As you have a Digital TV then you CAN watch a Digital channel on the TV while the RDR-HXD710 records another. No problem....

As you've got a lot of Sony kit then the remote for the 710 should do TV volume, TV channel, and TV standby which means having less remotes around all the time.

I hope this is some help...

P.S. It's a great machine, go for it, you won't be disappointed.

I've had mine since October 2006, as it's amazing how my viewing habbits have changed.

just to confirm what centurian said about watching 1 and recording 1, you can record a program for the HXD710's internal freeview tuner using it's EPG interface to schedule recordings to either the hard drive or the DVD recorder, hard drive is best and then archive later you you wish, while watching another freeview channel from your TV's internal tuner, just switch your TV's AV input

If you have Sky you can also watch that while recording from the 710's freeview tuner, I have my Sky box looping through the 710's scart sockets and out to my TV, so I can record from the Sky box if I need to as well.
Only downside of recording from Sky from the Scart is that I can't seem to be able to watch the 710's internal Freeview, I have to watch what I record when recording Sky.
But you should OK if you 2 Freeview tuners, 1 in the 710 and 1 in your TV
