Davina past her sell by date?
I think the eviction nights needed some new blood. I found Davina to be too over the top. She seemed to be forcing the issue when it's not necessary, a lot of the interviews fell flat and she came across as a bit patronising. She seemed too concerned with the reaction from the crowd. They should have given O'Leary a spin, Davina's lost it.

I couldn't agree more, Davina was way to forced last night in particular "It's big brother 2002 final, let's hear some noise" or whatever, way too over the top and it doesn't sound natural coming from her. She's a CRAP interviewer! She doesn't let them answer, she cuts them short and basically gives the answer to the them,it's really irratating to watch.....Davinia let them speak for gods sake! This year must surely be her last, 3 years is enough, Dermot needs to be promoted I'm loving his work! |

Agreed she is a crap interviewer. I don't think she enjoyed any of it and this came across. I would be very surprised to see her doing BB4, and disappointed. She had this annoying habit of putting words into the housemate's mouths, I liked the way Spencer put her straight on a few things and he wouldn't be pressurised into saying things that he didn't want to.
Anyone heard anything about Jonny yet? |

Davina's definitely not as good as she was although the poor quality interviews this year may be more due to the low quality of her scripted questions.
The contestants were less interesting this year overall and with the honourable exception of Jade, not particularly garulous. BB deliberately steered the emphasis from interesting and often revealing conversations to more visual entertainment. None of the housemates was particularly articulate and none of them especially gifted. Unsurprisingly, their interviews were insipid and uninspired. Was this Davina's fault ? Dermot is so perfect for the BBLB format I would hate him to move away from that into the more high profile role of the eviction night presenter. Perhaps someone new ? Can't think of anyone just now, does anyone have any ideas ? The format of the final interview was again not quite right in my eyes but at least we could hear it this year although Kate was so sloshed she could barely string a sentence together. She's such a lightweight ! Davina's lost her edge compared with previous years. I think she struggled to present some v.poorly edited footage and failed miserably to understand the characters of most of the housemates apart from at a very superficial level but then so did the public. I suspect she'll be back again next year as will most of us here. It's all a bit tragic really. |

so what is your point, Deerd? That Alex was actually dumstruck and in shock at the fantastic and positive response he got from the crowd, and his friends and family? Thought so!
And I nominate Graham Norton for Davina's job!!!!!!!!! She is well past sell-by, was from the start of the series, and tried to get it together but somehow never did it... and her speculation always seemed to be out... did she actually watch BB privately? She didn't seem to know any more than the average punter watching C4 edits, and coming to all the wrong conclusions and unable to steer her questioning any deeper than the surface. Sorry Davina... maybe you'll be for the axe with some other employees on BB3. Maybe it'll be for the best - we need new blood for BB4. |

although i will admit to being suitably ashamed that your comments did lead me to indulge my occassional tendency towards the flip. in the main, i agree that davina has lost some of her sparkle, but i think she was more constrained by the BB/Endemol mafia than in previous series. her natural curiosity in regard to the hms was censored by the questions she was allowed to ask and in this situation she seemed to over-compensate by prompting them towards the desired answers. alowing for this i'm not sure that anyone could do a better job and at least davina may have enough of the inside track to rebel occassionally; i doubt a newly chosen presenter would. is that suitable enough, dear???

I don't know why you are blaming her for the questions if you notice most of the questions come from a card she is holding in her hand so therefore the questions are already determined before she meets the HM's.

How about Kate for Devina's job?
I for one would love to see BB presented by a pissed up impressionist hopping about on one leg and intermitantly calling out Yes! whilst bawling her eyes out. She'll feel right at home too amongst next year's crop of ever younger drama students and film extras. Bitter? Me?

davina sexless fascist moron
In all fairness, Davina deserves a medal. She is astoundingly unattractive bearing a high resemblance to a diseased crow and whereas she once had a poor quality physique, the modern manifestation is atrocious and belongs on a duckpond. Her character and personality are obnoxious and she shouts like a person that has spent all her life in nightclubs going deaf whilst absorbing so-called musical noise appropriate to her low intellect. I believe she'd whisper in high decibels. If this is put on it is the old trick of associating noise and loudness with "having a good time", and if this were really so all anyone feeling a little poorly has to do is shout as loud as they can and the world becomes perfect.
She is an overacting pushy cow who constantly embarrasses herself on camera with the attention seeking Narcissism -- for example the strut in front of companion being dragged plus manic stare into camera. All in all, talentless. Who would not deserve a medal for being in a job at all whilst boasting so many negatives? I think she should continue as the BB presenter because she fits it all perfectly. Bad TV; bad presenter; a nonentity patronising other nonentities. I think her first TV flop was called God's Gift and that title says it all about her self-esteem. If she must fall from grace I recommend that her replacement be that guy who used to be the original Captain Birds Eye if still alive. More attractive, more talented, more interesting, and probably more appropriate as the overgrown children who inhabit the fantasy house need a better leader. Better still clone Hitler and we'd never notice Davina had gone. |

deerd fascist
*Consider the idea of democracy and allowing others an opinion instead of recommending a Soviet style metal hospital.
* Have read the rambling nonsense called Mein Kampf but it is still much more interesting than the boredom of Big Brother. *Have seen newsreels of Nuremberg rallies and the mindlessness portrayed reminds me of the crowds outside the BB house. *I'd say anything to anyone with or without a survivor tattoo. That's free speech. *Get some intellect to say something less cliched than your 'get a life' slur. *AND STOP SHOUTING like Davina because I am not impressed. I won't say please at all to someone who issues commands in my independent direction. **PS You have made too much of a meal out of the simple and non-political statement that Davina and Hitler are identical twins. |

Mein Kampf is indeed interesting; interesting, as the written exhibit of an unstable individual who was able to use and abuse a democratic political (socialist, in origins) party to circumvent democracy as a principle of state government and mandate. to liken that to BB (or the boredom it may have engendered in you is facile, at best). i disliked much of the mob-mentality that was evidenced outside the house, but again any comparison is facile and, furthermore, diminishes any valid point you may have to make. free speech v incitement to racial hatred and violence??? mmmmmm basic humanity, respect for others and self-dignity are surely better benchmarks in a democratic society. you want to do the theory of democracy with me - feel free, i just hope that you can talk more than platitudes and enter into some real political philosophy. Deerd respecting your independent direction, are you respecting mine??? |

deerd thinks anew
I of course respect your individual right to freedom of speech as much as I respect the view that racism is abhorrent. You clearly see however that the one contradicts the other, as I do, because freedom of expression with exclusion clauses is not freedom.
Of course my posting is offensive and inflammatory. It is really a fire-for-fire response to what I feel generally at the fact that there are many many hard working people in my country struggling to get by underpaid and undervalued whilst such utter talentlessness as our Davina and every contestant of the programme make easy money for nothing. I find that politically, intellectually and culturally offensive. I feel the programme is appropriately titled with reference to the Orwellian nightmare -- not of constant surveillance, but of a society so decayed that the programme itself can exist in the first place. The sooner we all realise the value within ourselves and stop mediating our lives through petty TV deities, who by now are anyone off the street, the sooner we arrive at a society in which racism (for example) should become impossible because people are thinking for themselves and not allowing the next media cypher to do all the hard work for them. I despise celebrity worship as the West's post-Christian religion and would welcome the appearance of any further iconoclastic postings. It's all well and good condemning blind discipleship of someone like Bin Laden and then in the next breath gently smiling about some crackpot so hung up on Elvis Presley that he goes around living his long gone life in imitation. These phenomena are the same thing in principle and the death of individuality and individualism is more than lamentable. |

It may be what the whole world of the media in general warrants but to take one rather frivolous gameshow or its host (who I confess gets on my nerves) as a basis for the wrongs of the world is rather tenuous I feel. |
