I observed a lot of bitching and bad blood on the BB forum for BB3-replicating the antics of the house in some way.

Wouldn't it be nice if intelligent threads were not hijacked by 'anti _____' threads as happened far too much for most of us.

Some of as (believe it or not) weren't too fussed by who won, we just wanted to enjoy the experience.

So for BB4, lets have a good, clean fight (and 'break' when the ref says 'break')

Oh yeah, lets make more rules for the forums.

Totally agree. I've tried my best to take part in some good old fashioned discussion and debate on here yet threads are constantly hijacked by people trying to get cheap digs in at either DS contributors or housemates themselves and it's been very tiring. I'm still hanging around here because I'm a big user of the internet anyway, so drop in quite a bit, but even I've been very tempted during the past few weeks to say 'to hell with this' and just go somewhere else.

As mentioned, fallyhag's missed the point. Rules are there for one reason, to make the forum a more enjoyable place for people to go. Why should you come into a place like this at the risk of being insulted? People can bring up different views without resorting to cheap jibes and digs, if you think otherwise then you shouldn't be using this forum.

I think, from a personal POV, the mods should come down on the guilty parties a bit harder. For example over the last few days I've seen one user warned three times about digging at fellow forums users. IMO they should have been chucked off a lot sooner.

There's no need for rules, just for self-control.

If you're insulted, don't respond. Continue with your points and responses to those who are actually contributing something.

Ignore the cheap jibes, they are the product of desperation and deperate attention seeking. By responding you are simply feeding their personal fires.

Anyway, the insults are only effective if you respond. Treat them with contempt and you will soon see them as no more than the annoying buzz of houseflies.

Censorship and prejudicial editing are what many people on these forums accuse C4 of yet here you are advocating the same action.

I am about to sound like a complete hypocrite but here goes anyway. As someone who has received a warning from several complainants, I do actually agree with what you have said. the trouble is however personal insults are just that, personal and in contradiction to the T&C's, if peeps dont see action taken against the perpetrators than they feel obliged to defend themselves. There are also differences in sensitivity in individuals and I have found in life, those who are most sensitive often dish out the most insensitive stuff.
p.s. I dont think anything I did warranted a warning, if those who felt I had attacked them unfairly sent me a pm to shut up or explain myself, i would have! I am not unreasonable or nasty, I will argue my case and I dont see anything wrong with that.

Well, that's known as vigilante justice, in my book. We are talking about a moderated forum here. The moderators are the police and we should report offenders to the police and let them step in rather than joining in the bar-room brawl ourselves.

Of course in order for this to be effective then the "citizens" need to trust the objectivity and impartiality of the "police" and I have read that there are some who do not feel this trust is warranted.


Human nature. The only way you would get me joining in a personal bash-fest is if there were someone trying to make a valid point who was being ganged up by those who are more interested in stifling debate.


This is known as debate. Just keep it logical and even handed, that's all. The most important thing, in my opinion, is to be able to admit when you are wrong and enter a discussion with more than the objective of winning the argument. Personally I hope to learn stuff and test my views against those of others.

fj, agree with you, although WS made some good points.

I have found myself agreeing with fj today on several threads - this has been rather funny as we have spent the last couple of weeks on opposing camps. It would be nice to have the control that WS spoke of but some of us can't help "taking the bait". Far too many threads have been spoilt by the hatred, vitriol and swearing of posters from both sides. In fact, the post that has made me the most mad on this forum came from one of the posters who I thought was on the Alex side with me. How stupid of me, once I didn't toe the party line, I also got attacked. However, after some nice posts from some reasonable people (they are here, lots of them, but they keep getting hi-jacked by the "haters" on the forum), both of whom were not on my side of the camp, I have to add, (fj being one of them), I have regained my perspective.

As a personal view, I think the mood on the forums reflected the mood desired by the producers of BB3. The housemates were put in positions which divided rather than united them so camps of allegiance were formed.

I hope the series producers change their angle next year and return it to a more friendly format, I think this will improve the forum atmos too.

I have no idea what will happen with the forums next year, that will have to depend on the general mood of the place at the time. No-one wants to see a repeat of the fighting that has happened between a minority of users to plans will be made.

Healthy debate is fine. But I became really frustrated and annoyed with these forums, because EVERY THREAD turned into an argument. Here's how threads go:


First poster: "I like the way [x person] behaves, I think [x person] should win."

Second poster: "That's what I'd expect from an [x person]-fan"

Third poster: "Well you're just an anti-[x person], you'll stop at nothing to bash [x person]. Why don't you piss off."

Fourth poster: "Oh, it's always the same with the [x person]-fans! They'll twist everything around just to make their precious [x person] look good, totally ignoring that [x person] is evil and should die!"



DO YOU SEE? That kind of crap has RUINED the fun and good-nature of these forums. People couldn't ever say good things about Jonny without a war breaking out between "Alex-fans", "anti-Jonny fans", and everybody else. Every time somebody discussed a housemate, all their fans and anti-fans wage war against the comment!

It's frigging stupid! You should all be ashamed of yourselves for being "fans" and "haters" of these housemates to such an extent that FEUDS occur at the very mention of their names! Why the hell do you care about them so much?? You have waged wars on each other bigger than the housemates waged on each other! You have fought for the ideologies and feelings of the housemates more than they fought inside the house!

I loved BB, and I totally understand how deeply you can get into it. But still. get a grip! When you start to CARE so much that every thread becomes a feud... a battle between "fans" and "haters"... you destroy discussion.

I hope there will be a more pleasant atmosphere here when series 4 starts.

A friend of mine passed the url of this forum on to me, and I was really pleased to find it. This is the first time I have watched BB, and found myself hooked. As a heavy internet user, it was wonderful to find a forum reflecting the show so well.

As you can see though, I have only made a few posts, my friend - none at all. I am not a confrontative person at all, and found the atmosphere here to be very intimidating indeed, which is a great pity.

Whilst I admit that I was totally hooked on Big Brother, and thoroughly enjoyed it, it is after all, only a television game show with contestants in. Yes, I was very concerned about Jade being in the house, and remain concerned for her now, but that does not mean that I would have bitten the heads off anyone who dared criticise her, or that I would resort to playground insults at those who do so.

I am very happy for Kate to have won, genuinely pleased for her, and I hope she does well out of it. At the same time though, I would have been happy to see Alex or Jonny win, and I wish them well too. In fact all the housemates have entertained us over the last nine weeks or so, and instead of attacking them, we should be thanking them.

Yes, people got drunk and did silly things - but who - in all honesty - has never done that at some point in their lives? Everything that we have seen the housemates do, has been done by most of us at some point - although I bet there are quite a few who will strenuously deny ever having acted foolishly. The only difference is that the housemates did it on television as opposed to a pub/club/party/wedding.

I have been totally amazed by the ferocity of the attacks on here, and it has stopped both myself and my friend from posting - I wonder how many others have been put off as well? I can't believe how completely childish some of you are still being even now. Reading through some of the posts on here, I am quite concerned at how violently some people have reacted to a television show, and the people within it. How is it possible to "hate" or "love" someone you don't even know? And what on earth is the point in attacking someone purely because they like someone different to you? Are you really so insecure that you have to do that? Do people really lack the intelligence to accept that everyone is different, with different likes and dislikes? I have watched people on here who have claimed to be quite intelligent or have various degrees, and yet they sink to playground level insults; "my choice is better than yours - ner ner ner ner ner ...." ........ utterly beyond me!

Thank you to the DS staff for providing such an informative BB site - although I have not been posting, I have read the updates regularly, and the news, and browsed the forums too. I do feel though, that the personal attacks should be stopped, and that those who make personal attacks a second time should be banned. Those people do make the atmosphere on here quite unpleasant at times.

I wasn't on this forum last year for big bro (don't even know if there was a bb forum here last year) but I expect there wasn't that much fights and personal attacks because most people liked Helen and Brian who were both friends.

I agree with Beth about it being the producers fault, It depends really, if Jonny and Alex had been friends throughout then I think there wouldn't be a big problem between Jonny and Alex fans just like Jonny and Kate fans who rarely fought.

I fully agree with the "wishes of the producers" bit. Anger generates a lot more "interest" than contentment: the divide, and in particular the two tasks in which an HM had to choose, were designed (standard psyche games for management courses) to cause friction. I remember thinking "if I were an HM I would make sure I didn't win."

It turned out to be Alec: whatever he chose to do he was in a no win situation. On the second occasion, had he placed himself on the "poor" side and elected to share with NO HMs he would have been accused of being devious.

The voting, and in particular the C4 clips (the Adele "w*nker" clip" were destined to push dislike,

I wonder (suspect actually) that if we voted FOR which HM we wanted kept in as opposed to AGAINST the one we want out it would change the emphasis. It certainly felt more positieve during the last week.

The HM's being obliged to find some reason for nomination I suspect also focussed thier minds on what they were doing wrong.

I'd like to see more team building excercises next year: someone said 24h rollerskate - something like that where they have to work together to win the task.

Exactly! I more or less stopped watching BB and posting on DS a few weeks past when it became clear that there wasn't anything really to talk about. The BB producers took a bland group and gave them nothing to do that would reveal anything interesting about themselves. Hence the forum also got less interesting as threads only seemed to be about "camps."

BB3 was a big money turner for C4, but as a viewer, it's a question if the time was worth it.

I have enjoyed my time on this forum, but, like many of the contributers to this thread, I became very tired of the angry and poisonous posts from some members. I think Beth Hart hit the nail on the head when she suggested that the mood of this forum was influenced by the mood of this years show.

Hopefully the producers of BB4 will encourage team work in the House instead of constant conflict, bitching and paranoia.
