Connection problems!!
Hi,
I'm new to this so please be kind!! I'm wondering if anyone can help me fix up the maze of wiring that lurks behind my tv unit. I have a:- Sanyo TV with 2 scarts, Grundig Sky receiver with 2 scarts, Jvc video with 2 scarts, Jvc dvd with 1 scart, Xbox, Av sender (which also has a scart connection). 3 way scart switcher box. My problem is the Av sender. I had everything set up fine until i bought this. I'm sure this has to be connected to the Sky box directly (with a scart) which then means i have only 1 free connection on the sky box. Is there any way i can use the switcher box to solve this problem?? The way i have it set up just now means i can't get a sky picture on the Av channel on my video so i can't tape off of Sky just now. Will it be better to ditch the video completely and get a Dvd recorder instead?? Sorry for being so stupid, but i really can't get my head round it at all. Any help would be appreiciated. Thank you, Stuart |

Notwithstanding the answer to Captain Cod's relevant question...........here goes:
VCR AV2 ---> Sky VCR scart Sky TV scart ---> switch box input scart 1 DVD ---> switch box input scart 2 XBOX ---> switch box input scart 3 switch box output scart ---> TV AV1 All devices should be set to RGB (assumes switch box is RGB compatible) Use switch box to control input to TV. You could connect AV sender to TV AV2 (this is most likely input and output) so that you can send what is showing on the TV. Really need to know what your plans are. Good luck, Scorp |

I was just going to send Sky, thinking you would have to change the Av sender to the dvd if i wanted to watch a Dvd on the other Tv.
I didn't realise i could work it through the switch box. When i get some time (probably the weekend!) i will alter the set up to as Scorpio has described and if i have any problems i'll let you know. You couldn't recommend a well priced and effective Dvd recorder could you? I really fancy getting one sooner or later. Thank you very much for your time, i appreciate it. You are a brainy bunch!! |

If you had Sky+ I would probably recommend a fairly basic DVDR - I have a Panasonic.
Without Sky+ I think it would be better to go for a DVDR with a built in hard drive - this definitely seems to be the concensus on this forum. I dont have any experience in using one but the concept is that you get slick editing facilities to remove adverts etc, prior to writing to the DVD itself which can then be done in fast mode. As for models, Pioneer, Panasonic, Sony seem to get good recommendations on here. Have a quick search and you will find loads of threads espousing the benefite of each type. Rgds, Scorp |
