Although my aerial is aligned with Bluebell Hill I can also receives transmissions from Crystal Palace.
Unlike every Freeview Receiver I have used to date,which has allocated a priority programme number to a station based on received signal strength ie BBC1 is P1,BBC2 is P2,ITV1 is P3 and so on,the Topfield allocates adjacent programme numbers to a given station.Thus,in my case,BBC1 is P1,P2;BBC2 is P3,P4;ITV1 is P5,P6,and so on.
So why thank you Sony?
Because in the handbook for their 910 Freeview DVD Recorder they incude the channel numbers for the various MUX for all the major transmitters in the UK,as well as the website to update this information.
So Topfield,either include this information in the handbook,or better still,amend the tuning protocol.

I live just outside Sittingbourne and have the same dual reception problem as you.
I must admit I didn't really pay much attention to the program numbers allocated after my last scan, but I just went through the list and deleted the weaker channel of any "pair" that cropped up.
My list now reads as expected .... i.e. P1 BBC1, P2 BBC2 etc.
I'm at work now so can't really check any further.

Further to the above, the delete procedure isn't exactly obvious - it's available under "Options" for the channel selected in the channel list.

This isn't a problem I've had myself, but there is a TAP that can automate duplicate channel removal for you - see the thread starting here .

thanks for the replies.
Deleting duplicated channels is a laborious prcedure,made more so in my case where the variation in signal strength between the duplicated channels is only a few %.
Knowing one's transmitter,and the channel numbers of the various MUX makes a manual scan a doddle.
I have written to Turbosat along the lines of my original posting.

I've never seen exactly that behaviour - normally the box tunes in by LCNs, rather than anything else.

If you do have a choice of transmitters, then manual tuning is usually more reliable; I don't think the current algorithm is entirely in line with DTG guidelines.

I found that the Toppy habit of showing (for want of a better word) ITV3 about half way down the channel list is odd. The 9200T channel list shows up ITV3 just after ITV2, ie in a place where you might occasionally happen to notice it.

Yes, I do know you can have fovourites lists but I am tired of explaining changes to a wife who just parrots, "Yes, dear." but who isn't really listening. Then you get the phone call at work because the TV is crackling and she can't find the Andy Murray match on Eurosport on Hotbird, through the Toppy which it turns out isn't even switched on: she's actually tuned to British Eurosport on the IDTV and of course there's no TUTV card in the TV because it's in the Toppy.

Sigh.

I still have the Fusion FVRT100 and I have read through these forums of it picking up duplicated channels, but mine doesn't. However, my Toppy does. It is a real pain to delete them, which means I have never done another scan since installation. I now have channel remover TAP so I will probably go ahead and do it and use that, or do the manual method.

I remove mine manually, Ang. Once you get used to the wrist action it takes about five minutes. I do wish that ITV3 would show up in the right place, though.

Log on transmitters,and the channel numbers for the various MUX for one's transmitter are displayed.
Reverting to factory reset on the 5800 then makes a manual scan so much more convenient than deleting a multitude of duplicated channels.

One of the options on ChannelRemover is to delete all channels of UHF Frequency. Once you have set this up correctly, it will then delete those duplicates for you easily when you need to rescan.
