More amazingly in the album chart is that the BRILLIANT Led Zeppelin IV album is at #28, up from last week's 37. Wonder where it will end up this week....

That has to be the oldest album in the entire charts at 35 years old, and easily the best in the top 75! (despite not even being Zep's best!)

That's possibily because HMV are selling it for £4.99 at the moment.

Yeah, could make sense. Cracking album, well worth a fiver when you consider the tracklistings.

EMI/Apple should stop being so greedy and make the Beatles albums more accessible in high street shops. In many shops the Red/Blue/White albums (ok they're double sets) are priced at 30 quid! Great albums that they are, they should be half that price. Their single albums are usually well above full price as well, no wonder they are rarely in the charts. Would do their popularity no harm whatsoever to drop them for a month or so.

It's definitely the reason. Check out the top 2 in the album midweeks. They've never been anywhere near the top spot since release but they are both available for £6.99 just about everywhere, hence a massive rise up the charts in the new year (both pretty good albums IMO, though). Sales are so low at this time of year that you often get a random oldie suddenly appearing in the charts after they've been reduced in the sales. EMI should maybe think of doing it with their Beatles albums, they may get a whole new load of younger listeners. It's not as if the cost of making the album won't have been recouped a million times over, is it?

Edit: Must try to type faster.

I presume Sony/Michael Jacksons royaltys get in the way of reducing the cost of the Beatles albums at the moment. Perhaps when Jacko is forced to sell them, the new "owner" will try and get them reduced to Led Zeppelin prices!

I suspect they might still be waiting for some kind of anniversary, like 50 years since the release of "Love Me Do" or something like that, before they fully remaster, and re-release it all over again, perhaps "Elvis" style with the singles as well.

In fact, its very confusing as to who decides anything when it comes to Beatles releases.....Sony/EMI/Apple(Beatles themselves) or Whacko Jacko!??

I reckon Artic Monkeys could become the Indie equivalent of Westlife.

And big up to Will Young, result as they say, well done ma boy.

The indie equivalent to Westlife! haha. Will they be covering/butchering soon in "indie style" a Phil Collins number??

I vaguely see what you mean though....reach number 1 for a week, then disappear into oblivion, and be yet another unknown and meaningless #1 single?

Glad I amused you. Remember now we are allowed our opinions, goodness me you are so touchy when it comes to artists you like.

Good to see Will climbing. Love the song. Have to laugh at some of his fans accusing others of being touchy. They will hear nothing bad said about Will at all and frequently 'rubbish' other singers all the time.

I dont make assumptions about anyone. Thank you. I belong to a Will fansite though and frequently have to put up with a number of members negative opinions about other singers and groups. Price of being a Will fan I suppose.

All fansites are like that, that's why I stay away from them. They are scary places. It's not specific to Will believe me.

i was stunned how low the artic monkeys sold so far, with all the hype around them ,every recordstore promoting them i was exspecting hell of alot more sales than they got.

i knew Will would'nt have high sales 500.000 people already have it on the album, and his downloads had been available for 2 months.

so the artic monkeys had a heck of an advantage

but it certainly did not show in the sales

dont get me wrong the sales are ok but nothing special for an "amazing new talent"

Has somebody hacked Maisie74's account on here? Up until a couple of days ago she seemed like a very sensible poster, now she seems as mad as most of the other Will Young Posse.

I know, I think their management are currently desparately trying to get them on GMTV so that they can ask Lorraine Kelly and Fiona Philips for a date. It's the only thing that's gonna save the disaster that When The Sun Goes Down is becoming.
