Can anybody shed some light on this please.

On saturdays this recorder comes on at 4am and goes off at
6am. On sundays it comes on at 4am and goes off at 7am.
I am not sure about midweek as I am at work.
I understand this is something to do with updating the
freeview guide but how can it take so long?
I have this in the bedroom and so can hear it when it is on
and is becoming annoying.
One option I shall try is to set up a recording to start at
3.55 and go off at 4.10 and maybe this will stop it coming on
for hours.
If anybody can help I would appreciate it.

Mine does the same, standard feature I'm afraid - it mentions it on page 109 of the Operating Instructions. You are correct in your understanding that it is for the EPG to update. It appears that EPG updates, and some manufacturers' software updates, are transmitted between 3.00am and 7.00am.
