So Just to confirm, my mate on HC will be able to use the same sort of setup that I use for my ntl: cable setup (From the STB onwards, of course).

Bog Standard RJ45 Wireless Router?

Here's the setup I was thinking of!

Also, transfer speed not an issue as the Bedroom PC's will only ever be browsing and small downloading. To save on money would a 802.11b router (and USB dongles) be sufficient?

Yes, your diagram is correct

Thanks for that red_g00ner. I will PM if I have any problems. Just one point.

Is it best to get the Homechoice engineer to wire in my PC first with their wired router and then attempt the installation of the WRT54G after all is up and running?

PS I am guessing by your user name that you are a gooner.

Bring on the semi-finals!

Yeah, come on you reds.

Like most other ISP's the HC engineer will not touch your router. So probably best to get him to plug your PC straight into the HC STB to test internet connectivity before he goes.

Unlike NTL (think T/west do it as well) you do not need to register a MAC address. So once the engineer has gone plug in your router and give the HC STB a reboot.

just a minor point hc don't supply any form of router unless you buy the wireless one from them i take it you were refering to the set top box

(just trying to clarify for any future readers)

Yes that's what I meant. Set top box. Good spot.

Hi

Just for general info purpose as it is hard to find details on this anywhere..

You can also use an Apple Airport for wireless connection, it look cool sat on top of the STB...

Gooner. I ordered this setup for my WiFi Ready Laptop and PCI 54g card for the Desktop PC. Have you had any problems using this?

I'm using an Apple Airport Express, tiny box hidden away with all the other electrical plugs. Nice having the combination of music videos on demand, plus my entire iTunes library played wirelessly.

As long as your laptop supports 802.11b/g then it will work with WRT54G. Which if it is a recent one (within the last 18 months) it will.

No question is to silly to answer.
