O brave new world.....

...that no longer has such creatures in it.

I loved BB3, but having now emerged once again, blinking, into the daylight, I'm so glad it's over for another year. As in the previous two years, I can't quite believe that I focused so much time and energy on it, and that I actually cared so much about the way they behaved, and who won.

Don't get me wrong: I 'm not ashamed of my Big Brother habit, and I've no time for those who regard it as a symptom of the dumbing down of our culture. It's basically a story, a narrative, with good guys and bad guys, and the human species has been hooked on that kind of entertainment since shortly after we developed the capacity for symbolic thought. And if you look at Greek and Latin literature, there's plenty of vomiting at parties in Petronius, and many unspeakably rude things in the comedies of Aristophanes...

It's brilliant entertainment, but what I can't quite fathom is why, when it's going on, did we all care so much about these characters? Many of the exchanges between diehard fans of Alex and Jonny on these threads were vitriolic, to say theleast, and I myself was guilty of being a fervent Jonny-basher.
But when I saw Davina interview him, it seemed as if the spell was broken, and I couldn't think why I'd loathed him quite so much. He seemed a nice enough sort of chap - OK a bit of a piss artist, but someone who loves his parents and holds down a difficult and worth while job, and was clearly deeply embarrassed to find out that the entire population does not pee in the shower and eat their toenails in public. And he even had something nice to say about Alex.

Ah well - until next year, I'll be enjoying the next fifty weeks of freedom...

Yes..I had the same with Tim, in the house I hated him, but outside he didnt really seem as bad.

why do we care for them..(or hate them).
Because we see them so often, that its triggers our unconsious instincts, its as if they were part of 'our ' tribe through familiarity, so we judge them accordingly, into who will be usefull(conciously..who we like), and who are no use to us(conciously, we hate).
eg Kate won. Some disliked her intensly, others supported other hms intensly, but not enough. More liked her enough to decide she would be the most usefull to the tribe out of them all.

Its all very desmond morris really I suppose.

There did deem to be a powerful tribal instinct behind our actions...........

I still don't like Sandy, Adele & Tim for their arrogance and their still insistance of demonising Jonny. Its funny how those HMs that supported Alex still had something bad to say about Jonny including his dad being nasty about Kate. Yet HM's who supported Jonny or Kate never said anything detrimental about Alex neither did their families. I just feel sorry for Alex being supported by a lot of shallow people who can see no good in others. Alex himself has dissapointed me excusing Sandy's peeing in the kitchen bin tonight after the rift he caused over the shower and to me makes his principles very futile and pathetic after what was revealed about Sandy's nastiness last night.
I hope he see's sense as deep down he is a lovly lad and would'nt want him to become bitter and twisted for the rest of his life.
