Free Evening and Weekend calls
As the forum is now getting a little crowded, I though it would be wise to post the two companies offering free evening and weekend calls for NO monthly fee.
The good thing about these two at the moment is you don't have to move your line rental away from BT and the problems doing so would create. http://www.just-dial.com/pages/jd_saver.asp - Also have capped calls to mobiles evening and weekends. http://www.planet-talk.co.uk/SaverPr...x?source=saver |

Yes, they are both CPS, so you can keep your line rental with BT, and get the free caller display from them, and free 1571 (if you use it), also as you have a line rental billed by BT, you are then able to also use indirect carriers such as 1899, 18866 and 18185, for cheap calls, when not using your chosen CPS free calls.
JDS offers capped calls to mobiles, but some people seem to have had problems contacting CS, though for the majority there should be no problems. They are now part of TalkTalk, so not sure how long the service will last as is, but then there is no reason why not to use them for now and then move if they change the service. Many people I have heard have been happy with Planet Talk (Primus 2). |

There is none. Both JDS and Primus 2 offer free evening and weekend calls for no monthly fee, many people have been doing this for the few years offers like this have been available.
Same as about 18 - 24 months ago, for a while TalkTalk were offering free evening and weekend calls for no monthly fee. I only used TalkTalk for the free calls, others went through 18866, 1899, 18185 or back over BT, this is why my phonebills have been very low (Now I use VoIP only, so save line rental too). However TalkTalk are trying to force people over to their line rental, which means they can then block access to indirect carriers like 1899, or throw you off for using them, or charge you a higher cost for line rental. People who have opted for BullDog now find they can't access 1899 and the like, so are forced to make all calls via Bulldog, this is why you should onlyhave line rental from BT, but CPS your calls elsewhere. So I'd grab the offers whilst they are around, why pay for evening and weekend calls when you can get them free! Then use 1899 for daytime calls at 3p a call. |

BexTech,
Just read the T&Cs for JDS and can find nothing about connection charges etc... Is there one that you know of or are evening & weekends completely free? |

With JDS there is no connection charges, the evening and weekend calls are completely free.
So if you were to only use them for evening and weekend landline calls you would receive a bill for nothing, same with planet talk above except PT doesn't offer capped calls to mobiles. They both for NO monthly fee offer completely free calls at evening and weekends. JDS has a 5p minimum call charge, but that only applies to chargeable calls, not to the free ones, free ones are completely free. |

Also is there a Maximum time limit for how long 1 call must last for e.g BT you must redial after 60 Mins or you will get charged. |

5p min charge only applies to chargeable calls, not to free calls.
The evening and weekend offer the calls are free for 2 hours, you can then if you wish hang up just before and redial. Doesn't mention a time limit on the max tariff. For the max tariff to be worth it, you would need to make 300 daytime calls per month every month. You maybe better off with just the free evening and weekend calls, and then for daytime calls using 1899 and pay just 3 pence per CALL, 1899 has no monthly charge so you only pay for the calls you make, so if one month you only make 100 daytime calls it will just cost £3, whereas on the JDS max tariff you'd still pay the £8.49. |

On Moneysavingexpert.com they are saying that the free JDS evening and weekend calls tarriff has been withdrawn for new customers. Customers on the tarriff already will remain on it for the time being. |

I've not seen any mention of that on there, and the JDS website still states free evening and weekend calls.
Edit: There is one thread about it, it seems they were pulling it the weekend for new customers. Though they are still advertising it. After this date, then Primus will be the one to go for. Last edited by BexTech : 24-01-2006 at 21:19. |

I was thinking about joining JDS as they seemed to look the more professional. (I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover....or website ).

I had to cancel my debit card thanks to Just Dial, They just love charging me a monthy charge for their VoIP service, which i've cancelled many times.
Not very impressed with the company! |

It appears that indeed Primus are the only one left.
Their website isn't too bad, could be the fact that this tariff is hidden from the main site and only available via the http://www.planet-talk.co.uk/SaverPr...x?source=saver link. |

Not very impressed with the company! JDS is now part of TalkTalk so billing issues should be a thing of the past, there was a little problem when Just Dial was taken over by OneTel. |

Primus:
You can opt for a free bolt-on:- The penny mobile tariff is for any time of the day. You can make mobile calls any time of the day and you will be charged 20p for the first 20 minutes. This does mean that you will be charged 20p whether you are on the call for 1 second or 20 mins. |

So my decision to move my landline to TT was possibly not the best thing to do Ah well you live and learn, I'll move back to BT end of March, which raises one question. I'm on talk plan1 if I move my rental back to BT can I leave the calls through TT |

Afraid it wasn't the best decision, never mind many people are falling into the same trap.
Yes, you should be able to remain with TT via CPS, though they are starting to pester people to switch line rental to them, and when you sign up online you have no option but to have their line rental, however unless everyone you know is on TT, you might be better of with Primus 2 for the free evening and weekend calls. TT line rental £10.49, Caller display £1.50, 1571 £0.50 - Total: £12.49 BT line rental £11.00, Caller display £0.00, 1571 £0.00 - Total: £11.00 Has TT blocked indirect access numbers 18866, 1899 and 18185 on your line? |
