Are there any details of what's going to be on Telewest's HD service? I know they have some demos on their new DVR system but what about broadcast channels?

I would expect them to have a similar lineup to Sky HD but has anything been confirmed yet?

As far as I know there have been no details released regarding TW's HD service.

Id guess that now the SkyHD launch lineup has been completed they will start to speak to Telewest about a HD channel carridge deal.

Then again they may not

Especially as SKY will want to corner the HD market (PAY) and the added complications of a mpeg4 broadcast on Dsat and mpeg2 on TW which if not done correctly could result in poor HD pictures on cable.

TW have deals with the BBC and Pathe and the rest may depend upon SKY making exclusive deals with NG, Discovery etc as they have done in the past.

SKY can not compete on price with cable (loan STB againest full retail) so content has always been their ace in the hole.

Yes, I already have Sky+ and was automatically going to go to Sky HD, but then I found out about TVDrive, and the fact that they were going to be first with HD is making me think again. I already have Telewest TV and was going to cancel it (I already cancelled TW phone and internet a few months ago but kept the TV to try out Teleport and possibly TVDrive)

I would certainly stay with TW until both HD systems are out, you can then compare based on facts and not speculation

They might be first but they're not going to have anything to show apart from PPV/VOD stuff. When Sky launches they might have the same stuff Sky has but it'll cost more than Sky as usual

But the VOD stuff is availble already - I thought I read that they were going to be first with broadcast stuff.

I don't really care which is the most expensive - I want the one that's the best for me. I currently have Sky+ and Telewest (running through a Tivo) so I don't suppose either one of them will be more expensive than what I have at the moment (I'm planning on cancelling one of them when I get HD)

They probably will but it won't be SKY movies, SKY sports, SKY1 or anything SKY controls

That apart there are sill dozens of sources of HD content which could be used to create an actual HD channel as opposed to PPV and VOD content.

We'll know more when TW officially launch.

you cant really make such a statement, sky control sky movies/sports and sky 1-3 and any other of the sky channels so if sky dont want tw to be first to broadcast then they can stop tw from broadcasting the HD versions of their own channels

What makes you think SKY would not put their own DTH subscribers first just as they have done with other SKY channels and services?

SKY may not want to make the cable HD service better by offering their HD content since cable already has the advantage (in certain terms) of loan hardware.

SKY want 10million subscribers, making cable better value will certainly not help them to achieve that
