Technika DVP 1012 Mad Aspect Ratio
I've just bought a Technika DVP 1012 personal dvd player from Tesco. £65, and it seems to be able to play any kind of format disc I throw at it. I'm very impressed but for one critical flaw. The built in 7" 16:9 screen is permanently set to a kind of "stretch" mode, so all pictures fill the screen. 4:3 pictures are stretched, with slightly less distortion in the middle. Anamorphic source pictures aren't expanded enough in the centre of the screen. There's no problem with the video out socket. Menu settings allow you to set the app. output for a 4:3 or 16:9 screen, and all is well, but it is apparently impossible to view an image in the correct aspect ratio on the built in screen! It seems to be a design fault, rather than a malfunction, as there is no menu to set the built in screen's setting. There's only a menu to set the actual dvd player's output. Technika is a Tesco brand name. Does anybody know who the real manufacturer is? Perhaps there's an engineering menu somebody may know about. Any ideas? Thanks folks.
