Channel Inconsistencies
Coral_B

Hi, really sorry if this has been posted before but I couldnt find an answer.

I have noticed several inconsistencies in my channel numbers. For instance when i manually go to channel 31, instead of getting More4+1 i get c-beebies. However if i scroll through the channels More4+1 is also channel 31, so both channels appear to share the same number. To make things more confusing when i open Jags EPG it displays More4+1 as channel 33. (a similar thing happens with ITV4 and Men and motors).

E4+1 is channel 39, but Jags tells me its channel 41.

Does anyone know how i can make the channels numbers align?

Curiouser and curiouser, the actual channel numbers are

(see http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/terrestrial/epg/)

More 4+1 : 31
E4+1 : 32

So E4+1 is officially neither 39 nor 41!

Some stb's allow you to rearrnage the channel line up which could be why you've got two different numbers for the same channel on different boxes.
On my sony box you can shuffle the channels which i thought it meant that it would just move postion in the EPG listing so I could then put all the different type of channels together but it actually changed the channel number as well. they all revert back to original when you do an update so it's less trouble to leave them as they are. Try retuning in case you've changed the channel number somehow with out realising it.

I think what you may have done is not deleted channels when they've moved - the numbers you give for E4+1 and Cbeebies were the correct LCNs before the re-organisation late last year; the best bet would probably be to do a factory reset to delete them all, and do a complete re-scan. Remember to back up your timers beforehand.

If you're going to do that, and you don't already have it, you might want to update to the latest firmware, too. If you have timers set for any channels that move as a result of the reorganisation, we have a page at www.toppy.org.uk/epg which explains what you need to do to update, and includes an online tool that will manually change a timer list, so you can re-import it with the correct numbers.

Note too that Jag's EPG does not support LCNs in current versions; the numbers it displays are nothing to do with freeview channel numbers.

Mostly, you don't notice this now, until you get further up the channel list, since there are fewer gaps than there used to be.

The way to see which channel is on which LCN is to call up the inbuilt channel list, via the OK/List or List buttons.

Thanks a lot for replying, Im glad you seem to know what the problem is.

One question though, if i do a factory reset, will i lose any of my recordings from my hard-drive? also, i already have the latest firmware--if i do the reset, will i need to download it again? or upload any Taps again?

Thanks again to everyone for replying

A factory reset will not affect your hard drive, TAPs or the firmware. The only thing that it will do is delete any scheduled timers, your favourites list and the channels.

Nigel.
