Doctor Who boxed set problems

In light of the problems some people have been having with the special tardis-shaped box containing series one of DW, I have been in touch with dvd support at the BBC regarding possibly being sent the 'flat pack' version in exchange for the barcode of the faulty box.

This is the reply I received:

Hello xxxxxxxxxx

Thank you for bearing with me - I have only just been informed that the flat packed box is available only as actual packaging for the Doctor Who Box Set of Series 1 which will be on sale in the USA only. We do not have access to this unfortunately so all there is in Regions 2 and 4 is the original box in which the five discs are shipped. If your TARDIS box is actually damaged, would you be able to have a replacement one from the retailer? If you do have a box which was damaged in transit to the shop or to you if you ordered it from an online retailer, you should be able to obtain a complete replacement as the box would be deemed to be faulty.
----------------------------------

So it seems that if your tardis is falling to pieces, you should be able to get a replacement from the retailer.

Has anybody actually tried getting a replacement in this way?

I know a lot of people have put the discs in a proper box and printed off custom covers that are available in the forums of outpost gallifrey.

Did someone say that the Borders region has this new, flat-packed case?

If so, that would make the reply I received a little odd.

The problem is that whilst some are better than others the entire thing is a rather flawed design - personally the only major problem I have with mine is that I wish they'd opted for velcro rather than a rather pathetic magnet to hold the thing shut.

I think it is the case (no pun intended!) that many retailers have a 'flat' display case on the shelves that is then exchanged for the Tardis box at the counter. I have seen this in both Woolworths and Borders.

was sitting on the bus, and had an idea for a "luxury" edition boxset

basically its made of metal, and is truly the TARDIS shape, the middle bit is similar to what it is now, but the top & bottom come off.

also in the top it has a light & a way to play the TARDIS sound effect, and the pictures of Rose & theDoctor on the front, are replaced with action figures in scale to the TARDIS.

WW3. The Doctor places the body of the aid into the cupboard of the boardroom and says "Sorry". It will then jump to Mickey and Jackie in the flat.

My disc skips in WWIII too. Is there any chance of the BBC sending us a free decent copy?

Do you have to email them first before you send it back or can you just pop it straight away in the post?

How quickly do you get your replacement?

Thanks for this thread.

I checked my CD 2 World War Three episode and it does the same - I have emailed dvd.support@bbc.co.uk asking them what I should do.

I did purchase it on 9th December last year from MVC (which no longer exists!) - so I hope they can help.

I'll let you know how I get on.

In WW3, when the Doctor puts the dead secretary in the closet he says "Sorry" and then it skips to Mickey in the bedroom. Missed out is the scene where the Doctor tries to figure out where he recognises the name of Harriet Jones.
