Just been looking through my music collection and i'm very bored of it all, not much new stuff has managed to creep in lately and it got me thinking......

There's not much like the feeling when you find a great band/singer when they are pretty much unheard of and you can follow their career from the very start.........so

Name a great band/singer that arent very successful/heard of yet

Type of music they sing

I think Corinne Bailey Rae will take off this year. Many people would have already heard of her, especially if you listen to Jo Whiley. Very soulful music, she comes from Leeds i think.

Also Kubb are being put around a bit more lately, again been around for a while but can see them getting bigger in 2006. They are your usual Arctic Monkeys type.

Obviously band of the year though will be no contest.

Orson- catchy as crabs new single 'No Tomorrow' is out in February. Funny lyrics and great tunes. Recently supported Duran Duran on some UK dates.

Expecting Guillemots to be huge this year as well

Watch out for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. They're a rock group from New York, and their self-titled first album, to be released later this month, has been getting rave reviews. I've heard Mark Radcliffe play a few of their songs on Radio 2, and the praise is justified.

A band I really like are Battle. They've been releasing limited edition singles and then making them available for free on their web site (not really a recipe for success!).

This year they'll be releasing 'proper' singles so they may even threaten the charts .

Little Man Tate could be yet another big Sheffield band in 2006.

ˇForward, Russia! for certain.

And if they start getting any notice outside Oxford, Fell City Girl should get some recognition.

At the minute I really really like Johnny Panic. They had an album out last year called "The Violent Dazzling" and its regularly in my CD player. Recording their second album now. www.johnnypanic.com

Another band that never get enough attention are Reuben. Two great albums with not one bad song between them. www.wordsfromreuben.com

Let me see:

The Harrisons
Envy & Other Sins
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
The Maccabees
The Kooks
The Crimea (formerly The Crocketts)
Duels (another great Leeds band)
White Rose Movement
Guillemots (of course)
The Research (Debut album is fantastic)
The Motorettes (Got to be the band of the year)
Kubichek!
This Et Al
The Spinto Band
Shychild (Paul Epworth produced)
Mystery Jets (Paul Epworth produced)
The Automatic

Plus everyone needs to check out Mad Staring Eyes and Milk Kan

Last year was great for music, this year even better as you can see above

Of the ones mentioned on here I'd go with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Fantastic album, bit of a Talking Heads influence IMHO. In my top 3 of last year I'd say...though my top 3 changes every week it seems!

Of the other mentioned cant say im struck on Forward Russia, The Kooks or the Mystery Jets on what I've heard, and cant say I've heard anything of the others.

Saw Harrisons, Milburn, and The Reverand last night supporting Arctic Monkeys and Harrisons didn't float my boat at all, i'm afraid. Milburn and The Reverand certainly did, they have a chance this year, I feel, especially as the Monkeys seem only too keen to give them a leg up.
