Is 1899 reputable?

My Mum was on Sky Dial which has just been withdrawn. We decided to go for 1899 (she doesn't want to Carrier Pre-select) attracted by the free landline calls.

We went through the full registration on their web page including setting up direct debit, but no confirmation email ever arrived and her service will not work.

I have emailed them and they replied saying she is not registered. Are they dodgy or is it worth repeating the registration process? Any advice greatly apreciated.

1899 comes out of the same camp, based in Lugarno Switzerland, as 18866 and 18185.

All of these companies appear to have somthing to attract customers...in their own way.

I've been with 18866 from really the date is was first launched and have since signed up with 1899 and 18185 so as to 'cherry pick' the best deal.

I have to say I have never had a billing problem with any of these companies. An e-mail arrives when the account gets to about £5 with an attached call break down and the amount appears on my next credit card statement.

For free weekend calls try this operator: www.sun-dial.co.uk I use them but only at weekends and there also OK. They send you a dialler box which pre's your the number you've dialled with 1602 and every month I get a statement, never mind the fact this it is always zero, with a detailed call break down.

I am with 18185 and 18866 and had no problems!

Oh, by the way, if you ever get sales people knocking on your door and they offer you a telephone service that beats BT ?? Shut the door on them!

I am with 18185 and 1899 I use a combination for calls depending on type this is my first month and I am very happy with them.

No customer services number but then they do answer emails if it's not FAQ very soon.

They let you now sign up and pay via Direct Debit..which is easy to control if they screw up delete the DD.

But no complaints at all. I am saving money already

I've used 18866 and 1899 for ages now and have been very pleased, no problems. Just watch out if you use a credit card because the name on the charge is something odd so you might not recognise it at first.

I use 1899 and 18866 and find them both very good services. I don't make a lot of calls which means my bills with them are low. They don't collect the money from my credit card until it's built up to a certain level, even if that takes months. 18866 hasn't collected my balance in over a year.

I'm with Cable not BT so I have to pay 0.5p per minute on top of the 3p connection charge, however it's still cheaper than Telewests 6p connection + more expensive call charges.

WWW.1899.COM INTERNET is what shows up on my card statement.

18866 may show up differently?
