Sharp Aquos LC32P50E views.

I know quite a lot about the above TV, but I am interested in views as to its PQ, particularly football or other fast sports, and sound. Some say that it is equal to or even better than CRT. I am putting off the purchase of an HD Ready set for a while and am deciding what I should purchase should my thirteen year old Panasonic break down unexpectedly. Some of its colours have already gone.

Firstly, no LCD is of a better picture quality than a CRT, but in terms of standard broadcasts and DVD playback, the P50 series is excellent. Its also a great cheap option if you want a LCD now but not a full HD compatible one.

We have a Richer Sounds near my work and they had a 32P50 in the display, and it looked fantastic. I recommend it.

I think any HD display, LCD, Plasma etc, will show a better pic than any CRT, if it is displaying @ it's native resolution from source to display, also due to the increase in pic detail.

This is true of PC TFT's as well.

Probarbly like most people I eagerly anticipated HD tv and buying a tv to suit but then I got to thinking about the potential cost eg A Sky HD reciever and up to now the still unpublished cost of monthly subscription.
This technology is still in its infancy and is bound to have teething problems and so im possibly thinking of maybe waiting a little longer before I commit myself and in the meantime buy myself a proven quality standard definition set like the Sharp Aquos P50 series.
Any views and comments would be very much appreciated.

The best thing you can do Bob is go out to a store and see the P50 for yourself. Im willing to bet with a normal TV broadcast it will look better than most of the TVs in store (obviously this is because the P50 series is dedicated to SD/Pal resolutions).

They're a good stop gap option until the Hi Def TVs in the UK are both established in terms of technology and when they become cheap.

HD displays are already cheap for a new technology.

As long as your source res matches the screen, you'll get a good pic.

Even when VHS came out, that was only 250 lines compared to a PAL CRT of 576 it was viewed on and they looked rough, just like Freeview/SD does on a HD screen.

Bear in mind that the LC32P50E isn't HD Ready, and only has 960x540 resolution.

But it'll look good in SD and HD.
