Does anyone know why my Pioneer VSX-808 receiver won't let me change the bass and trebble controls when it's in Pro-Logic, Dolby Digital or DTS modes?

I've got a Panny E06 and in these modes it's in direct mode hence no tone adjustments. This option is recognised as the best for sound quality.
