Hi all!

Sorry this is a bit vague...my other 1/2 has arather cheap dvd player (but seldom used) & every time a dvd is put in the picture is fine but either NO sound or 'odd' sounds (think the 'odd' sounds are the directors comments-ie 'move towards the chair' 'she leaves the room' etc).

This is on ALL dvd's! I can't get to see the player till next week but guess it must be something simple like the SCART lead?? She does not alter any settings via remote as the batteries are flat-just puts the dvd in the player & that's it.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Chris

Firstly, get some batteries! Youre gonna need them, it sound like she has managed to get the audio soundtrack stuck with direcors comments as the default - goodness knows how.

Try using the remote to access the menus to see if the audi default can be changed.

Yup-sounds a little like that. Unfortunately I'm not able to physically see the player till next week. I'll get her to buy some batteries & over the phone go through the menu set-up.

You don't think the SCART has anything to do with it?

Picture but no sound is often a symptom of a SCART lead not being full plugged in but in this case, it would not explain getting an alternate sound-track which sounds like a DVD player setup problem. If there is a reset to factory defaults option in the DVD player then it may be worth giving that a go.

Ok....new scart-did not fix it. Brand new batteries-REMOTE DOES NOT WORK!!! She tried different batteries, cleaning infra red 'bit' at the end & on DVD player....ANY other ideas please?

I know a cheap DVD player is only £20 but seems a waste for what could potentially be a very simple problem....

To be honest it doesnt sound like a simple problem. Contact the manufactures (though for a £20 machine they probably dont have a UK cust service facility) to see how to do a reset to factory settings.

If the machine is under a year old then take it back as faulty. If it is over a year old then you have probably had a good life for such a cheapo machine and a new machine at a similiar price point would probably be significantly better than the old one... or treat her to a proper one for her b/day, V.day etc

Depends on the woman... a friend was pissed off that she didnt get the DVD-r from her b'friend but got a ring instead

And "treat" kind of ment as an additional rather than instead
